Question:
How much food am I supposed to have?
Hi, I am 16 days post-op and I am on mushy foods; cottage cheese, ricotta, strained fat-free cream soups. I am using a 1/3 dry measuring cup as a serving at these meals. Is that right? I am having 1/3 cup of one of those 3 times a day. I am gatting the majority of my protein (46g) from the Syntrax Nectar. But do those amounts sound right? And, how long am I supposed to take to eat my meals, because it only takes me 15-20min. Thanks. — Susan M. (posted on October 26, 2003)

Sounds like you are doing great. Are you already getting 60 grams of
protein per day? Good for you! Are you super full after you eat 1/3 cup? I
could eat less than a 1/4 cup for the first couple of months.

Hi, I had the same surgery you did, and I was allowed 2 oz. per meal, or
1/4 cup for the first 6 weeks. I was told to try to make my meal last for
30 minutes, but I find that very hard to do. I can usually stretch it over
20-25 minutes. If you're really unsure, give your surgeon's office a call
tomorrow and check with them. Good luck, I hope your recovery is going
well!

I was told a few tablespoons but I'm sure that added up to 1/3 a cup.

That sounds about right - I didn't measure - just ate til I thought I had
enough. And my surgeon told me that my meals should last at least 15
minutes and not more than 20. Food stays in the pouch for about 30 minutes
so if you eat longer than that, then you can eat more because the first you
ate is going through already. If you eat faster, you are eating too fast
and have a tendency to eat too much and will end up uncomfortable at best
or throwing up at worst. Seems to me that you are doing great.
