I had popcorn rather early on and enjoyed it. I've had both low fat and
movie buttered popcorn (my daughter and I shared a small one one day).
I've read that you must chew chew chew to avoid kernal issues but I had no
problem with it the times I've had it (I was on a popcorn kick for a couple
of weeks but it subsided). I would just say be careful and enjoy.

I am only three weeks post op and I had some popcorn today. I know, bad me
but I chewed really well and it went down great!

I eat popcorn a lot - and not the lite either. Keeps me regular!

I'm 13 months post op and still haven't had any popcorn. It's way to high
in carbs for me to consider as a snack alternative. I usually choose
cashews for something salty and munchie. I wouldn't recommend it as a good
food choice even if your body might be ok with it, especially at 10 weeks.

Actually, and someone correct me if I am wrong, microwave popcorn doesn't
have that many carbs. I was studying the contents and the nutritional value
is for unpopped. If you scroll down there is an asterick which states that
(and this is for the brand I was using) popped only had 3 grams of fat
& 3 carbs for 1 oz serving. I bought the 94%ff mini bags which are 1 oz
and still only eat half. I am also 10 weeks out. But again you must chew.
Whats strange is my dh had the extra butter and I had the light--his was
less fat and even less carbs than mine.

I was told to avoid popcorn due to the kernals might get stuck in the pouch
or stoma. I guess each surgeon is different. If you do indulge please
chew!

Have I missed something? Could have sworn that someone who is only 10
weeks out (less than 3 months) wants to introduce popcorn into her diet and
had some of us post-ops encouraging her. C'mon. There are foods that we
probably all miss-- but, miss something enough to potentially slow down
recovery and weight loss? And, what about expressing some collective
concern that she was "missing my popcorn"? Isn't a statement
that reflects such a personal relationship with a food item cause for some
concern that we may be encouraging someone to continue what was for me a
close, loving, by dysfunctional and co-dependent relationship with food.
Also, shouldn't we be looking to introduce healthy eating habits by
encouraging one another in that regard. Sorry, but sometimes, one of us
has to a little like Simon and less like Paula Abdul.

I say you need to ask your Dr. Mine Dr gave us the ok to have any food at 3
weeks,Im now almost 2 months post-op and I have had some popcorn last
weekend and it did not bother me in any way I believe that all people are
different and if you have a craving, sometime its better to have a little
and then move on with it, than not having it and thinking of it all the
time. Good Luck! Teena

Not for me to be the food ogre. I'm a former therapist and I don't go
around giving therapeutic answers when one is not asked for or to decide,
from a 8 line post that asks ONE question that this person is dysfunctional
or codependent or make any other sweeping judgments about her relationship
with food. She didn't ask for that and I'm not going to go there. She
asked if she could have popcorn and I said I eat it on occasion, ate it
when I was 10 weeks out, have eaten both light and buttered and haven't had
a problem. I, personally, don't see a thing wrong with popcorn but I'm on
the "eat as normal as possible" plan. I don't eat everything I
miss but I do try just about everything when I want to(except for sugar,
I'm not one who wants to know that I don't dump on it). My weight loss is
slow but I'm okay with that. My food plan is not for everyone but theirs is
not for me either. I think that some posters forget that not everyone is
doing what they are doing. I can't sit in judgment of what another is
doing if they're not asking for me to do that.

I hope you ignore some of the panic-guilt ridden answers you received! I
think we all need to chill out. It is popcorn..it does not indicate that
she is trying to sabotage her program. I have had popcorn several time and
I am 3 months out. I have lost 80 lbs. You have to learn to trust yourself
and not worry so much. We should be doing things now that we can do for the
REST of our lifes..otherwise this is just another diet and I personally
feel that sets us up to fail. I take ALL of my vitamin/nutritional
supplements, I do the protein drinks, focus on getting proteins and veggies
for the most part, exercise everyday and let myself eat "normal"
foods when I feel like it. I watch my calorie intake, keep it between
700-1000 per my doctors recommendation. I say if you can tolerate the
popcorn..have at it. You are the best judge of your own actions. Good
luck!!

At my 6 week visit, my nutritionist said I am allowed popcorn. Last night
my husband and I went to the movies and ate popcorn with butter and I've
had no problems with it at all!! Enjoy your treat as long as you're getting
your protein too (as Iknow you've heard, lol). :)

I have popcorn at least twice a week. I agree with a previous poster, the
fiber helps keep me regular. I do not eat anywhere near the amount I ate
pre op. I use the lite because of less fat. Check with your doctor first.
Mine told me it was ok as long as I chewed it really well.

After a 15 months postop and when I reached goal, I started allowing myself
to eat light microwaved popcorn. Orville Redenbocker, Smart Pop Kettle Corn
is amazing :)
But for those less than a year postop, I would be weary of trying any type
of popcorn as it could contribute to obstructions.
Also, be sure to read the nutritional info on popcorn as most are loaded
with calories, and protein is minimal. Popcorn can be very filling and
unless you are not needing to worry about getting in your daily protein, it
is always best to choose foods that are rich in protein.
Hope this helps!
