Question:
Has anyone had lap-band surgery gain back the weight and then had by-pass surgery?
I am at the end of my road. In 2008 I had lap-band surgery. I slowly lost 75lbs but it was an up and down struggle. I am now back to my pre-op weight (327 lbs)+ and very depressed. My eating has gotten out of control. I buy healthy food. I plan my new diet plan every week only to fail before the week is over. I am destroying my life. I need help. I should have chosen by-pass in the first place but I was too afraid. Now I am willing to do anything to get this weight off of me. I realize I have been fighting this battle too long. I'm just tired of being obese and unable to do the things I want to do. My knees are damaged. My heart is broken because I thought I would be well by now. I've been in a similar situation. I had lapband surgery in 2006, lost 75
lbs., but had lots of problems with food getting stuck, throwing up, acid
reflux, and night coughing, etc. Had to have the lapband removed by
emergency surgery because of prolapse. Gained all 75 lbs. back quickly.
Had to go through 6 months of dr. visits to get approved by insurance for
the gastric bypass. Was very depressed and embarassed. But I did have
gastric bypass in May 2008. Lost 105 lbs. and have kept it off with no
problems at all! Wish I'd had gastric bypass in the first place, but I,
like you, was afraid of it. My friend had lapband at first, too. Only lost
about 75 lbs. With my urging she had the lapband removed and gastric
bypass done all in one surgery. Has had no problems and lost all her
weight. We were both hungry all the time after a while with the lapband.
Gastric bypass has been great for both of us. Don't give up! See a
bariatric surgeon and tell him/her what you want. And best of luck to you.
You're not alone. Gastric bypass may be your answer!

I had lapband in March of 2008 and removal in October 2008 after a hole in
my stomach developed from my body rejecting the band. I lost 50 pounds, but
gained the weight back plus 47 more pounds. So after I got a new job with
amazing insurance, I decided it was time to take hold of a new me. I had
roux-n-y gastric bypass a little over a month ago. To be approve with
insurance I had a 6 month pre-op diet followed with a nutritionist. Since
November of 2011 I've lost 48 pounds (including post-op). I had some
complications the first 3 weeks post-op that caused me to not lose weight,
but I didn't gain either, but in the last 5 days I've lost 4 pounds! wooo!
back on the train!

For what I read Gastric Bypass seems to be better than most WLSs, can
anyone enlighten me? I had my stomach stapled in 1989 and have a lot of
the weight back. I vomit every day, everytime I eat
