Well if its anything like us getting gall stones -- it happens. I had my
RNY on April 2, 2007 and just last week had to have my gallbladder out due
to stones. So best of luck and I sure hope that too doesn't happen to me.

And be taking calcium CITRATE not carbonate. Carbonate causes stones,
citrate prevents.

Peggy,
Actually, while not so uncommon--think about it. Malabsorption should
prevent calcium buildup, right? My gastric post-op doc discovered I was
hypercalcemic when doing routine follow-up testing. It meant my
parathyroid glands were overactive, and in fact, I had tumors on them. Not
related to the gastric bypass or a result of it, however. I evidentally
had this disease for some time. Ask your physician to run a PTH test to
check your levels. If the calcium levels are too high, you may have
overactive parathyroid glands. I had mine removed and now I am on 10,000
mg of calcium a day for the rest of my life. I suffer from many symptoms,
but I still would not trade my gastric experience. If I didn't have it, I
wouldn't have known about the tumors (which were benign on my
parathyroids). I also would not have known about the malignant tumor on my
thyroid (which has been dealt with, but is ongoing). I am two years post.
Check out PTH with your doc.
