Question:
Going off Hormones..What about thryoid hormones??? Synthroid?
I do not have a thyroid as I have thryoid cancer. So I am wondering if I should not take my synthroid? I got an email just now, and was told to go off all hormones immediately. Well it is the weekend, and I can't get ahold of anyone to ask and not sure what to do. Anyone else have had to go off their synthroid?? — barbara g. (posted on March 30, 2007)

surgeon asked me to continue with my synthroid and januvia (a diabetese
med.) I have low thyroid hence I have to take synthroid for ever. VS

I also had thyroid cancer and am on synthroid for life. The hormones they
are talking about are Hormone Replacement Therapies, estrogens etc., ones
that can lead to blood clotting and other problems. Keep taking your
Synthroid, it's not in that category of Hormones. I took mine right up to
the day of surgery and went back on it the next morning. Good Luck!!!

Yes, keep taking Synthroid. You'll need that the rest of your life for the
very reason, you don't have a thyroid. I've been on Synthroid for 18 years,
my doc told me I will have to take it the rest of my life. But of course
talk to your doc on Monday.

Barbara, what does your doctor say? Please don't take the advice on a site
like this over your doctor. Please check with them. You have had cancer
of the thyriod, they will consider all these things and advise you. Taking
the advice of someone through email above your physician in this instance
could cause you serious health issues. Please see your doctor, and get a
2nd opinion if you question their advice. Thanks. Patricia P.

Check with your doctor to clear up any misunderstanding. I don't know of
anyone who was instructed to stop taking synthroid, myself included.

I took my synthroid the day of surgery and still taking it.. I will have to
take it forever too... I don't know why they would tell you to stop taking
it, but talk to your Dr.. best luck!
