Question:
BAck PAIN

My Back has been hurting the last few days. But it has gotten alot worse today. Has anyone had this is it normal? I hate going to the doctor. also I just started a new job hard to take time off right now. The pain is in the middle of my back. Not in my bra line a little lower than that. It's not like a back pain either its like something else so it is making my back hurt. Thanks for any info I can get, with out having to go to the doctor.    — KimASmith (posted on October 23, 2006)

When you say that your back has been hurting.... hurting how... burning pain, throbbing, come and go, or constant? It could be alot of things. It could be that you have a muscle strain. What do you do in your new job? Is it using muscles that you haven't used in a long time? Is there repetative turning, twisting, reaching, etc? If so, you could have a muscle strain and would be helped with tylenol and motrin for an anti-inflammatory. If it is come and go and throbbing in nature, it could be something more serious like a kidney stone. Do you still have your gallbladder? Sometimes you can get back pain without the abdominal pain. Or it could be even more serious if it happens when you exert yourself and it goes away when you sit down, like deferred chest pain. Women typically don't get 'chest pain' they can get nausea, anxiety, jaw pain, arm pain, indigestion, back pain, etc. So I would say that if it has already been going on for four days and it is getting worse, I would check it out at the doctor. Hopefully, it is something not to be concerned about, but on the same token, you would want to catch something serious and not let it go. Hope this helps..... Kari_K.

Kim, I just has DS surgery about ten days ago & I'm hving the same thing. I called the WLS clinic over the weekend, he told me it could be many things stricture, maybe an ulcer. Do you still have your gall bladder? Connie

HOw does water taste? Please get an EGD ASAP. If you have a marginal ulcer, it could perforate. Don't eat or take any drugs that can irritate your stomach until you get the "all clear", OK? Aspirin, Ibuprofen, NSAIDS.... like that.

My suggestion to you would be TO GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!! i had the very same problem that lasted darn near a month before it got so bad I thought it may be heart related (which it was not) but did find out my pancreatic enzymes were FOUR times normal!! I was later told that acute pancreatitis can cause back pain. Like yourself I experienced the same pain you described... pain in the mid-back that would not go away... it kinda felt like I had pulled a muscle but could not figure out how I would have done that since I was practically bedridden and still hooked to a wound-vac. After a three day stint on a clear liquid diet, enzymes were rechecked and the ranges were back to normal. This happened in Apr 2006 and I have not been bothered with that awful backpain since then. I am 17 days post op and i too have had that pain. I did go to the doctor. He didn't seem to find anything significant. I had it coupled with nausea too. He thinks it was the beginning of dehydration and ketosis.(which is something new to me that i hadn't heard about) I was having trouble getting my liquids in. Since then i took a nausea pill forced fluids, stopped taking the vitamins etc that make me nausea and i feel better. I think if i could just eat something i would feel alot better. (still on full liquids)
