Question:
Throat pain
I am nearly two years post op from RNY-MicroPouch. For the past two weeks, I have had this odd feeling in the back of my throat. It is there all of the time - not just when I eat. In fact, I notice it more when I am not eating/drinking. It feels like a dry lump in the back of my throat. It is not painful - just irritating and I am concerned since it is not going away. It does not restrict the "flow" of food or water....anyone have any idea? — Julie M. (posted on May 1, 2006)

Got to ask, Do you still have your tonsils?? But what ever it maybe the
best thing, I think is take a run down to your doc and let him or her take
a look. It could be nothing but a iritated throat but why take any chances.

The "lump" in my throat turned out to be a symptom of depression.
It went away just a couple of weeks after I started medication. Sounded
very much like what you describe. I had no problems eating, drinking or
swallowing. It was a lot like the lump you get when you are about to cry
or are trying to keep from crying. It would, of course, be best to check
with your doctor about though because there's just so many things that it
might be. Best of luck to you!!

I'm having the same problem and I'm 4 years post-opt. Found out that
esphogus is to wide. I had Open RNY. I'm in the middle of go to see
doctor to see what they can do for me. Dr. Valin did my surgery and I had
no problems until about 1 year ago. He does not take my insurance so I had
to seek out another doctor.

I used to have this feeling when I took beta blockers for my blood
pressure. It also gave me a cough. After my doctor changed my medicine,
it went away.

Might be tonsiliths, or tonsil stones as they are also referred to. Check
out this message board thread for more info:

I get these and I get that full feeling in the back of my throat as you
describe. Then one day I cough and out pops a tonsilith. Might also be
associated with your micro pouch, but I have no knowledge to share on that.
Hope you find your answer soon!
