Question:
I'm 18 days post -op and get dry haeves 20 to 30 minutes after I eat
sometimes the dry heaves can last up to five hours, I've lost all my strength and I don't want to eat or drink because I know they will return. My surgeon hospitalized me for the last two days, rans many tests and found there to be no surgical reason as to why this is happening so he released me. He told me to continue to take enodcet for pain and tagmin for nausea as long as it lasts. I was taking these meds for the three days before I went to the hospital to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas what else could be causing this or what I can taake? — Vicki M. (posted on June 1, 2001)

This happened to me also. I ABSOLUTLY could not drink plain water for 3
months without getting nauseous or dry heaves. I had to use some crystal
lite body quencher with it, a weak version but it helped and it had to be
room temperature. The same with the broth and jello. I was on clear liquids
for 4 weeks. I could have things a little on the warm side but not hot or
cold or solid. I hope this is helpful to you. I thought of myself as a
newborn and remembered how easily they would "spit up" after
eating. I figured my new stomach and plumbing were just going to be
sensitive to EVERYTHING going in , even clear liquids. God bless you &
take it easy, real easy , things will get better.

Sorry to hear that you're so miserable. I've been told that peppermint is a
natural antinausea ingredient. Maybe you can find an herbal tea with this.
Hope it helps....Good luck

Try drinking chamomile tea with splenda. It was wonderful for my nausea. I
don't think I could have made it through it without this tea. It can be
bought at any grocery store. Splenda tastes better than sweet &low or
anything else I have tried. Let me know how this works for you.

I would to contact your doctor immediately. I was just reading Shannon's
profile the other day and she had bad complications from a kinked bowel.
It all started with the dry heaves. Are you able to keep food and liquid
down? I would just contact my doctor immediately with stuff like this.
Even if you feel a pest so what. It's normal to get sick if you eat to
fast, or the wrong thing, but other than that - it's really not normal. I
hope I don't frighten you - I'm just geniunally concerned for you.
