Question:
My tongue is covered with a brownish color coating.
I just noticed over the past day or two that my tongue has a light brownish color coating on it. I noticed my taste buds were off, but my tongue seems a little numb and I tried brushing my tongue, but it doesn't come off. Any ideas? I was wondering if it was oral thrush, but no pain or sores. — Wendy M. (posted on September 14, 2008)

One of the things we were told to look for was oral thrush. It is very
common in bariatric surgery.

Sounds like thrush to me. I developed thrush a week or so after my WLS -
apparently it is quite common. My PCP prescribed a "swish and
spit" (nystatin) and told me to eat more yogart, but it took almost 2
weeks to get any better. When I spoke to my Nut., she said I should have
taken a one-time pill that works better. You should see your doctor, if it
is thrush - ask for the one-time pill. Good luck.

I had the same thing newly post-op, but it eventually cleared up by itself.
Make sure to get your vitamins and enough fluid. Also brush your mouth
and use a rinse.

Your description sounds like thrush... you could have the begining of
thrush or a very mild case---it doesn't always hurt. Talk to your doctor
about tho.

Take strong "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA and
check with doc. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com
