My tongue is covered with a brownish color coating.

I just noticed over the past day or two that my tongue has a light brownish color coating on it. I noticed my taste buds were off, but my tongue seems a little numb and I tried brushing my tongue, but it doesn't come off. Any ideas? I was wondering if it was oral thrush, but no pain or sores.
