Question:
Flabby arms: RNY Oct. 1, down 87 lbs. how do you all deal with flabby arms.

I am so much smaller on my top and would love to wear cute teeshirts, dresses, and what about in bathing suites? Is there any thing you use like spanx? Thank you in advance!!    — jennylynnsch (posted on April 28, 2008)

Jen...I feel your pain...I have lost over 130 and really look great...I wish my arms were firmer however...BUT...they aren't...I do weights on the arms which help tremendously...so do light weights with LOTS of reps to firm you up...then...ROCK IT GIRLFRIEND...put on those tanks, tees and dresses...heck, even people who have been thin their whole lives don't have perfect arms...you should be VERY proud of yourself...take a peek at my profile...I ROCK the tanks because I earned it...SO DID YOU!!! I found a place in Miami Florida called www.underworks.com that has men and women's undergarmets made of Spandex. The have so many styles, you might want to call them. There is a 800# on their web site and they understand Bariatric patients needs. I had to get the garments because despite all the time I spend in the gym, I can not overcome the skin on my arms stomach and upper legs because I am 62 and it just does not come back in shaped after about 35 year of age. I hope this helps you.

I wear tankinis...Tank top and bottom type bathing suits and i usually wear long surfer shorts over the bottoms til I am ready to get in the water. The trick to flabby arms is never let them flail! LOL always do a beauty queen wave with arms tucked at your ribs...It's in the wrist movement...Never let them see the bat wings move! Seriously...don't worry so much...most people won't even notice unless you are contantly pointing out your flaws! So don't and enjoy being thin and healthy! Good job!

I just wanted to say that I had RNY on Oct. 31 and am down 85 lbs...congratulations to you!!!!! I'm not worried about my arms, starting at 374, I'm happy with whatever look I end up with, flabby or not. I'm just greatful to have the weight off. Not to say that when it's all said and done, I won't look into skin removal because I probably will but during this transformation phase, hey, I look good and that's all I know. Keep up the good work.

I have been able to find compression garments for the body, but, none specifically for the flabby arms that we have. I know that after plastic surgery for excess skin removal, you have to wear some type of compression garment for a long time. I have lost 135# and have very flabby arms and I deal with it by looking at it positively and say to myself- "that hanging skin used to be taught with fat, now it's not". Once I reach goal, it will have to be removed. Until then, I just try not to focus on it. I don't think I really answered your question other than to say- love your body and be thrilled it's not stuffed tight with fat. Congratulations on your loss and good luck with everything. Perhaps call a plastic surgeon in your area for some suggestions. Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC
