Yes, for the best success, and the maximum weight loss, stay away from the carbs for 6 months for RNY WLS. Then only complix carbs, like brown rice, whole grain bread and wheet pasta. Even if you can take more sugar without dumping, why mess with success because a few think they will loss just as much and not follow the rules. Best of success to you.

I can eat about 9 - 12 grams of sugar before dumping begins. You just have to experiment for yourself to see what is best for you. Sugar Alcohol acts differently also. Forgive me but I have never heard of the 2 grams of sugar limit. I buy a lot of sugar free products but even milk has sugar in it. Just read a lot of labels. Best of luck.

I had so little suger the first three years...and at four years I have found that I can tolerate about 18 g of sugar but I don't...unless I am on the run and grab a protein bar and they are always loaded with sugar...The less sugar you add back into your life the better you will do in the long run. Sugar and carbs create what us WLS grads call the carb monster...It is HORRIBLE! The cravings and hinger pnags are outrageous when you get back into the habit of eating white foods and sugar. Go for things with low glycemic index like veggies and fruits...whole grains cerals and breads and brown rice

I guess with each surgeon it is different. With mine I can have up to 30 carbs per meal and have never dumped sticking to this. Of course I can't have candy or the bad carbs. I had surgery on February 8, 2008 and have lost 74 pounds already so I stick with what I learned in my class. Not sure if this helps. I would call your dietitian and ask.

you want the truth?? stay away from breads, pasta, rice, potatoes -- they will keep the weight on you -- you aren't going to find many foods with only 2g of sugar -- our nut told us 8g was a good guideline -- just curious as to what foods you have been eating to stay at 2g of sugar?? i would love to lower my sugar intake --thanks roberta

I was told it is 12 grams max of sugar a day and the carbs very little also. I think each doctor has their own program and restriction on what and how to get the maximum results.

I have not heard of the 2g of sugar rule either, but I personally have been able to eat up to about 19g of sugar in a meal. Of course, I hear we are all different and experimentation is the only way to find out what works for each of us. Listen to me, the 6 week out expert!!!

I am 5 months out and try to keep my sugar under 15g. So far it hasn't bothered me. As far as the cravings they are more head cravings then actual hunger cravings. I don't recommend trying alot to fast. Even though you crave it, it may not go as well as you think. I can only do one piece of pizza and I have to be carful of whats on it and I can't even attempt if it only has motzerella cheese, its to chewy and doesn't digest at all. Its a trial and error though but just don't try to much to fast, not to mention these are not the foods you want to go back to.
