Question:
How much fluid passes through pouch...
Might anyone have any idea about how much fluid passes through the (average) pouch and at what rate... say ounces to time elapsed kind of ratio. I am curious because it truly seems like I am able to consume a good bit of fluid (for instance, low sodium chicken broth or crystal light) at a fairly fast rate (they go down easy). I do try to sip and take it slow but I am so paranoid about stretching the pouch or maybe the surgeon made my pouch bigger than other folks (hhaa, paranoia, like I said... I have a wonderful doctor). To date I have lost 33 pounds and tomorrow, the 19th, I will be four full weeks out. I am tickled pink with the 33 pound loss! Any reasurrances or even admonishment (should I being doing myself a disservice in some way) would be greatly appreciated. — LuvNSummer (posted on December 18, 2007)

I asked about this when I saw my NUT 3 months post op. I felt pretty early
on that I could drink like "normal" (like I did before) - She
assured me that was fine. She said the 1st thing your new pouch gets used
to quickly are liquids. Congrats on your 33 pounds!

I was told the pouch is like a funnel. As long as I am not eating at the
same time, I can drink as much as I want. My doc said not to worry. Best

my dr said that the fluid passes through quickly and goes pretty much
through the pouch right off the bat. I asked the same thing after surgery
because I did not want to go through this and strech it back out. I trust
the dr I have he is really good. Good Luck!!!

Really your pouch is not a pouch inless it has solid food in it. Then the
food forms a temporary plug. If you continually over eat you can then
stretch it out. If you are only having fluids then it is funnel and things
just pass through very quickly.
