Laps sometimes take longer, and ANY surgery can be delayed for a myriad of reasons. Previous surgeries scar tissue can delay things a bit, oversize livers, etc. its better if the time is shorter but more important that its SAFE. I have spoken with aneastologists and their most important goal is your safety. Sometimes taking longer equals a better safety margin. Attend support group meetings and take a post op to dinner, these will help you overcome the fear!

I had a Lap RNY and was in surgery close to 5 hours. How your Dr. can ASSURE you it will be less than 2 hrs is beyond me. My Surgeon had some trouble reaching all my organs, as I am rather tall...isn\'t everyones time different??

My doctor said 3 to 5 hours. He takes a peek at everything while he\'s in there. He definitely leaves no stones unturned. He also takes your appendics and gallbladder too.

My open RNY took about 90 minutes in the operating room, a few hours pre and post in the recovery room. That\'s it!

I\'m 15 days post-op. My husband says that from the time I entered the operating room and he had to leave... until they told him I was finished and heading for recovery.. 40 minutes. Open RNY - 17 lbs/15 inches SMALLER today..!!

I had the duodenal switch surgery and was in surgery 9 hours. I was super morbidly obese and because of this and the removal of my gallbladder and appendix it took that long. But the ds surgery is longer than the rny.

my dr told me surgery would be 1 1/2 to 2 hours. i had open rny with silastic ring. i was in 2 hours & that was only because he ran up against 27 year old scar tissue from my gallbladder removal & a \'sick looking\' liver that he sliced a piece from for biopsy. i dont think any one can ASSURE u how long surgery will take as we r all different & the dr will not know for sure what he comes up against once the procedure is started. dont worry so much hun. remember...positive thinking is ur best friend. good luck!

I had my surgery on June 10th--the same day, hospital & doctor as my best friend! Her surgery was at 7:30am and the doctor was done & in to see me by 10am. My surgery was 4 1/2 hours---lots and lots of scar tissue the doctor said from previous surgeries, including a c-section from my son! They are all different--I'm glad my doctor took his time and did it right!
