Hi there, I have a kidney infection right now. It is the first one since
my surgery in July and I feel it is directly related to not get in enough
water. I was slacking for awhile and not paying attention to how much I
drank. Other than this infection, my surgery has been flawless, no
complications at ALL. I have lost 70 since surgery. I do not dump on
anything, and have only thrown up once since surgery. I'm very happy with
my decision to have this done, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Please do what everyone posts over and over...... drink, drink, drink.
(Wish I had) lol Best of luck!

Once again I'm wondering why they allow anonymous postings and answers. I
thought your question was fine. You're obviously looking for information
and you should be applauded for that. However, I think Barb Day's response
was also fine. It was not a personal attack at all. And for you to answer
back in such a way is just wrong. The rudeness shown on this board
recently is why many people don't speak up or answer questions on this
board. We all should be here to help one another, not to put someone down
so that we can feel better about ourselves.

Well obviously the policers at this site were kind enough to remove the
rude response when I was typing my response, so it seemingly does not make
sense now. If they do not erase my response, just know there was a rude
response by the questioner to Barb Day here earlier.

MY surgeons death rate is well below one percent, and he takes on lots of
revisions and other high risk patients in the 700 pound and up group that
other surgeons avoid. I have done well as most of his patients do
eventually. I DO believe the complication rate is about 2%, but these folks
who have problems get them resolved eventually. Obviously you are a NORMAL
scared pre op, and your fears are natural.I suggest you attend local
support group meetings, they really help seeing all those happy healthy
post ops. Email me privately if you want.

You must've heard about kidney or liver failure from some of the surgeries
done in the 1970's? Are you speaking long term damage or immediately
post-op? We ARE more prone to kidney stones because we're lazy about water,
and high use of calcium carbonate products (ei, Tums) forms oxalate stones.
I got mine for Christmas 4 yrs out. We're more prone but it isn't the
actual surgery, so much as it is the habits we form or the advice we've
been given that contribute. My urologist was suprisingly well informed on
the subject. She tried to switch me from calcium carbonate to calcium
citrate back then, but did i do it? Noooooo. Also, caffeine &
carbonation contribute to stones, as does the tannic acid in decaf teas
& coffees. But this is all true for normies, too.
