Question:
Pre-op Tests for Diabetics?
For those of you who've had WLS and were diabetic, are they looking for a particular A1c? I was told that my A1c's needed to be below 7 or I could not proceed with the surgery. Anything else about the pre-op testing I should know? Thanks in advance for your response. — candyk (posted on April 21, 2009)

Well, I haven't had surgery yet but I have a date and my A1c's were a
little above 7 and it's not a problem. Actually the Dr. said that he has
seen people well above that. A1c's will improve after the surgery.

Mine A1C was 7.1 and there was NO PROBLEM what-so-ever...Nothing! I had two
days of insulin shots, 3 times a day right after RNY surgery and on the 3rd
day I never had another problem with diabetes again and my A1C has been 5.3
for 5 years!
