Pre-op Tests for Diabetics?

For those of you who've had WLS and were diabetic, are they looking for a particular A1c? I was told that my A1c's needed to be below 7 or I could not proceed with the surgery. Anything else about the pre-op testing I should know? Thanks in advance for your response.
