Question:
Pulled something in my side.
A couple months ago I bent over to put on my shoes and on my left side around the bottom of my ribs it feels like I got something in a bind, or like maybe I pinched something with my rib, I have now had this same feeling about four times. Is this what a hernia feels like. Does anyone know what this could be. I haven't had WLS yet. I weigh 284 so I have alot of fat around my mid section. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. — pugsley101 (posted on August 17, 2008)

My mom gets this same pain occasionally, especially when we are in the car
and she bends over to pick something up off the floor, or she twists the
wrong way. My mom has not had WLS, but I have. I have never had this
problem, but I think it is normal and just from being overweight. If the
pain persists, I would call the doctor, but generally it goes away within
10-15 minutes. I hope this helps!

I had a similar pain, for a while when I talked to my sugeon he told me I
was constipated, and after Itook a stool softener I felt better, I had delt
with it for about a month and a half, I was using the bathroom, just not
enough, and it was my left side seem to be right under my rib, rib even
seemed sore. hope this helps

I agree with the other response, that it could be you need to start taking
stool softener every day; (not a laxative). I had this problem and when I
described it to my surgeon that is what he immediately said to do.... I
bought the generic brand stool softener at walmart and I take between 2 - 4
gel caps a day. I definitely took care of that mysterious pain.

I have the same thing from time to time except its under my right ribcage.
It reminds me of when I was preggers and it feels like something is stuck
there (baby's foot I always thought) but since I haven't been preggers for
over 21 years it can't be that! Usually it happens when I am a bit
constipated because when it stops I usually have to 'go' soon after. I
haven't had my surgery yet either but this has been a thing for the past
few years.

I had my gastric bypass aug 2001. I get that pain periodically and have
ever since surgery. IT feels different than that kind of pain did before
surgery. Hurts more and it feels like I would imagine a hernia to feel
like. The fact is we are plumbed different now and sometimes when a bowel
gets a little hard it can feel that way when it pushes through. ITs likley
at the point of the bypass. Make sure you get a good amount of fiber in
your daily diet. When it happens you can rub it away ususally. Its likely
not a hernia but you should ask your doctor to check it out to be on the
safe side. I am not fat any more but I still get it.
