Question:
Has anyone had a problem with hyperparathyroidism since surgery?
I recently had a high calcium level and was told that I had mild hyperparathyroidism. I could have surgery to remove my parathyroid, or I could wait. My doctor & I have decided to wait 6 months to see if my corrected calcium level fixes itself. — Danita S. (posted on April 13, 2008)

i had high thyroid levels before surgery -- about 6 months after surgery i
had my meds increased and now at 18 months out i have had another increase
due to hyperthyroidism --i have an appt in may so we will see what the doc
says then -- i had my blood checked last week and they actually called me
at home to go get a new script for meds -- oh well
good luck

I'm preop and have the same issue; we also decided to wait and see what
happens because many times surgery isn't necessary. I've known my PCP (who
is also my nephrologist) for over 20 years, and trust his judgement. He
thought in my case it's OK to see what happens, so that's what I'm doing. I
don't think it's related to the surgery you had - maybe just something else
that happened to occur.
