Question:
FitDay.com Help - What is the percentage of carbs/fat/protein we should be eating?

I'm 4 months post RNY and I have lost 53 lbs so far...I ahve been pretty bad about tracking my food intake, so I recently started using the FitDay.com website to track my calories in/calories out and I think it's a great website. My question is this - the foods eaten pie chart provided shows percentages of fat/carbs/protein/alcohol for the day. Does anyone know what the ratio between them should be? At the end of each day it looks like all I ate was carbs, but really it's fruits/vegetables/milk, etc, not actual starches, like breads and the like. I feel like I'm failing...any insight will be greatly appreciated!!!    — sbonner (posted on February 1, 2008)

You are doing GREAT!!!! What diet have you been on that you've lost 53 lbs in 4 months? Yeah...exactly! Hug yerself, silly!!!!! You will keep losing weight. Complex (colorful) carbs are good carbs...(white) carbs are not as well for you. One thing I noticed is that when I eat too many white carbs...I want more...and then I start getting constant cravings...and at 4 years of maintaining within 10lbs up and down...I get worried I will go back the wrong way if I start making wrong choices. Just remember, eventually you will stop losing weight and level out to where your body wants to be. At that point choosing a fruit over a bag of potato chips is a good carb choice. I see that you already know that...and you lost 53 lbs!!! That's a medium sized child! Give yourself a good year and see if you can even carry the weight you lose for 2 minutes and then remember that you did...everyday. Think of it in those terms and the reality of it is truly profound. Good job!

Every Doctor has different rules and they should give them to you in writting. Just call him. I am not allow any complex cards for 6 months after surgery, so you can see that what I would give you is different that what you have oviously been told by your surgeon. If he does not have something in print, send him your food log and ask him to tell you what you need to add and remove. Best of sucess to you.

I agree with Bill, every doctor has a different set of rules. My program does not allow complex carbs or fruit for six months. I have found that I don't crave the comlex carbs since I don't eat them. My meals consists of 3 oz protein, 2 tbsp low car vegetables and 2 tablespoons of a moderart carb vegetable. Different foods will be added after six month. Congrats on your weight loss.

Personally I recommend www.sparkpeople.com for nutrition tracking. You can track everything from calories, fat, carbs, sugar, potassium, iron etc etc. (my username is usnavypride if you want to look me up :-)
