Question:
i finally got the referrel for surgery from my pcp! just 1 question?
does anyone think i will have a problem with my insurance declineing the surgery because i have 1 year waiting period on all pre-existing med. conditons, i just thought they might would consider my obesity to be pre-existing even though they knew my weight when they approved the insurance policy..... thanks again, i love this site..... — cbryant (posted on December 4, 2007)

I believe that if you have other pre-existing co-morbidity issues with the
weight they will look at it closer because in the long run it would cost
insurance more to take care of those co-morbidity issues thant o have the
surgery.
My own insurance changed on Oct. 1st of 07, my paperwork was submitted 11/2
and the approval letter sent to me dated 11/6, I hope you're does the same!
Hang in there, Leslie

I may be totally off but I don't think morbid obesity is considered to be a
pre-existing medical condition. Apnea, diabetes, etc. are though. Hmm.
Maybe I'm not making any sense. Doh. :)
Best wishes to you.

Congratulations, Cristine! My suggestion would be to contact the insurance
company and ask. But be forwarned - I've learned sometimes you can call 3
different times about the same issue and get 3 different answers, so make
sure you get the rep's name that you spoke to and either their customer ID
number or their extension for further use (they most likely won't give
their last name; that's why the other info is handy). Also - much
information is usually on the insurance company's web site. It's tedious to
find where the information is buried, but at least you can print out the
coverage page as proof!
