Question:
is there any way around the 6mth nutritional documentation

I've been trying for 10 years to lose weight with diffrent doctors I didn't have a primary dr because of jobs without benefits. With cigna the procedure is covered but i don't have the documentation of my weight loss process plus with my thyroid there was no real progress    — journey312 (posted on August 26, 2007)

Do you have records of your weight? Anything that says how much you weighed at the particular time? How much history do they want?

they want 26 weeks of documentation showing my weight loss progress. I just don't have it and if i start i might not be able to get the surgery because my coverage changes 01/2008

Cigna is a bear to deal with. I changed insurances rather than fight it anymore. The only way you might get it waived, and this is only a maybe is that your dr says it is life threatening and you can't afford to wait 6 mos. Have you checked about the new insurance. when I changed and went to the dr, I was approved within a month, without proof of dr documentation of weight loss tries.

I had to do that, too, in spite of having gone to the doctor for years a for my diabetes, and following an ADA 1000 calorie diet under his supervision! What I did was: I went to the surgeon and set a date for seven months later. I went to a doctor and got six months of documented dieting. (I lost nothing ) I also did all the other things my insurance company desired within this time. By the time my surgery date came, I was authorized!

NO, there is no way around it. We have ALL been on all kinds of crazy diets for a long time,,,who would have thought we needed to document EVERYTHING for some damn insurance company?!?! I also wondered if there was a way around it & I found there is not!!! I even tried to have the 6 month eval w/ my family doctor & a nutritionist in my area, as opposed to joining a 6 month hopsital program, like they have most places now,,,& that didn't even work,,,I was 2 months down on the nutritionist & family doctor, to just have to start over & join the 6 month hospital program which I start THIS WEDNESDAY!!!!! So, the longer you waste time trying to get "around" the system, you might have just as well followed the rules & maybe get ahead of yourself!!! This is my experience!!

TG...have you discussed with your doctor. I have some friends who went to Centennial in Nashville, and they weren't required to even have anything. Also, I had gone to Weight Watchers at least once per month in 2004, Jan thru May in 2005 and again July thru Oct in 2005...they told me that I couldn't count 2004 at all and that since I had missed June in 2005 that I didn't have 6 straight months...but my doctor's office (in Louisville, KY) had me sign a form stating that I didn't have 6 straight months, only the 5 months...if your BMI is very high, sometimes insurances will approve without it. Also, it may depend on what doctor you are going to and his/her requirements. Good luck!
