Question:
What do you do after two or three years and you have gained back 25 lbs?
I have gained back the 10 percent or so weight they say will probably happen, what I want to know is HOW do I get it back off. I know I have eaten things that I should not have eaten and my willpower is once again to zero. I want to lose this extra weight asap before it gets out of hand. I have gone from 155-180, and I am gettting very depressed and reclusive again even tho, it is better than the 305 I was before surgery, PLEASE HELP ME....thanks. — Angelfirewithwings (posted on July 12, 2007)

I KNOW IT'S HARD BUT YOU CAN DO IT, YOU DID IT ONCE BEFORE AND YOU CAN DO

STARTED TO PANIC BUT I STARTED PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE THINGS THAT I
WAS EATING AND THE AMOUNTS AND IN ONE WEEK I'M DOWN 4 LBS AND ONLY 2 MORE
TO GO.....I WAS ONCE 280 AND I LOST 139 LBS AND I NEVER WANT TO GO BACK

Back to basics...you can do this! Take out your paperwork that you got
right after surgery and follow your dietician's instructions. You don't
want to go back on that "road" again. I have every confidence in
you that you can do this!

First of all take a deep breathe--most 'normal' people play with 5-10
ounds. It is so easy for us to play with more. You have seen the signs and
are getting on top of it while it is very do-able. Every web site like this
has a 'starting over' plan. Also get on your Dr.'s ( or a bariatric Dr.
near you) web-site and they will have a class for just when this sort of
thing happens. So you are not alone and you can find comfort with other
people who are also scared. You have done it before and your 'tool' is
still in place. Good luck--we'll be pulling for you.

You might want to try Overeaters Anonymous, and your powerless over food. It
helps me.

Nora,
No matter how hard life has gotten for you right now. Remember one
thing and one thing only. The person you were is not the person you are
right now. You do not want to allow yourself to get back into any bad
habbits or patterns. You are strong for you took the necessary steps to
have this surgery and wanted control of your life. So please for yourself
and your family start doing what you know is right and just do it.
Remember this surgery was meant to be a tool to be able to help diagram the
way you live the rest of your life. The foods that helped shape you into
that 305 pounds are not your friends they are the enemy because in the end
they will only hurt you. God Bless and take care Matthew S.

Nora,
It sounds like you are aware of some of your problems. You do need to go
back to some basics, such as eating more protein and less of other things.
You may even want to try and write it down for a while until you feel more
back in control. Also, I don't know if you do any type of activity such as
walking or not, but if not, you may want to try something like this...and
if you do some type of activity already, you may want to switch up what you
are doing. Shake your metabolism up a little. And remember, you are still
way ahead of the game...you are only at 180 not 305. Remember that you
have done it before and you can do it again! Good luck and God bless!

Matthew .. I found your response to Nora to be well-thought-out,
well-delivered, and exactly what I needed to read this morning.
I hope it helps her, and I *know* it helped me. Thanks very much.

Hi Nora, thanks for writing. I am sympathetic to your situation and
understand how you feel, but I want you to kick yourself in the tush and
fight for your weight loss! Weight loss has ALWAYS been about diet and
exercise. You had to diet and exercise to lose the weight you lost before
and you will have to do it again. You say your will power is zero, but you
need to realize that you are the one that set the margin. Set it above
zero, it is a choice you make. Get your fight on girl and get going.
Drink that water, walk that extra block, even twice a day, eat that protein
and throw the crap away, get your fight on and lose that weight, because
you are right, the more than comes on, the more depressing it gets. But if
you will enjoy the sunshine, and do the few things listed here, you will
not only lose some of that weight, possibly more than you think, but you
will also not feel so depressed. Sunshine and sweat is a good cure for
depression, we are just too lazy to do it sometimes. But this is NOT you
Nora, you are gonna put on your fight and move forward! You worked too
hard to succumb to this small failure. Keep it small and fight for the
ground you once had. You can do it! You go girl! Patricia P.

I'm also 3 years out and have gained 27 pounds. I am back to exercising
and know I need to get back to a food diary. It's hard not to let the
depression and obsession get the best of me, too, but I still get people
telling me how great I look, and my life is still much more full than it
was when I was 85 pounds heavier than I am now. The person who mentioned
OA has a point, but we're not powerless over food, we have to learn to take
charge of our lives and make our health and wellbeing a priority. All too
often I put aside my needs for someone elses. Make yourself a priority,
and keep looking forward. I'm pulling for you, too!
