Question:
almost 5yrs post op/sick/weight gain/mind issues

hello everyone it has been a very long time. in oct. i will be 5 months post op. i have gained some weight that has caused some issues in my head that was never there b4. i am obsessed and haunted by this constantly!!.. i have gotten to 137 and cant stop thinking about food. oh my god, i am sick all the time if i eat right or not so i eat what i want. i dont leave the house unless there is no other way to get things done. sometimes i hate myself for having this surgery, because of the illness and this 17lb gain. what the hell is wrong with me? everyone keeps telling me that i look so GOOD, and at 120 they were afraid for me. Some compared me to looking like I had been ill for a long time. All i do is sleep now. My husband who has never supported this is more happy now than he ever was and asked to get rid of all the clothes that i had so much fun shopping for at 120lb when my weight has stablized. Help me somebody please, suggest anything, be blunt, harsh, whatever, I NEED HElP!!.. One good note I still turn heads.. HA HA.    — clightfoot (posted on March 19, 2006)

I'm so sorry to hear that you are not doing well.. I do have a question for you though.. Do you think that being tired all the time is physical or mental? I think you have to figure that out before you can take action.

You need to call your doctor. When did you last have your labs checked? Sleeping all the time can be a sign your iron levels or B-12 levels are low. (as well as a million other things) You do not need to live your life sick all of the time, no weight is worth that...call your doc, find out what's going on. Tell the doc everything, even the mind issues. He/she can refer you or sometimes just getting it out makes a world of difference. Good luck

I am so sorry you are going through this. By all means CALL your doctor!! Do it first thing in the morning. A l7 lbs gain is something you can easily get control of; have you tried going back to the basis? Your husband should be so proud of you. Is there a support group you can go to. Check it out. Good luck and God Bless. You have done a fantastic job; keep up the good work!! Laural HW-313 SW-292 CW195 GW-135

Your iron levels could possibly be low, but, you can also be depressed when you sleep lots. Please call your doctor and if you have a psychiatrist see him also. Get out of the house, let light in, take a walk, anything to keep yourself from thinking about this until you can get some help. Good luck...judy

Always consider the physical first by having the bloodwork up. Then please see a qualified psychiatrist and discuss these issues. Compulsivity can be a manifestation of depression. Having major depression and being treated for it myself I see a lot of me in you right now. Major thing first is to not panic and realize something is going on, either with supplements or depression that you will address so you can feel better. I'll be thinking of you. I am almost 5 years post op and have had similair experiences. You take care and let us hear from you that you are getting some help!

Your problem, hon, is either physical or mental. Go to your Surgeon and get a check up first, then go to your PCP, and get him to check ya up. Then, if all the tests and everything else comes back AOK, then i would defiantely contact your county mental health facility. Sounds like you are depressed, or going through a depression right now. But speaking from someone who had surgery in 2001, and have gained an extra 42 lbs since my lowest weight (partially due to metabolism change from pregancy and birth in '05), i can tell you it is not hard to let depression set in. Although i have a history of previous problems with depression myself, most of us do to one extent or another from being obese for so long, i can tell ya that going from 120 to 137 is no big thing, you are suppose to bounce back a little anyway once your metabolism equallizes. DEFINATELY, follow up with the docs, both physical and mental, and I am sure that you will find a solution. Need to email me anytime at [email protected] or check out my profile kimberlyc_68 hugs and good luck

I agree w/ everyone here. Get your DR's involved NOW! I was sick for 2 1/2 years (treated for depression) found out I was severly anemic, then they found a partial bowel obstruction, w/out the DR's talking to each other and me, they wouldn't have found much! Call your DR's now!

I wish I had looked closer at your post, it says 5yrs post op, then in your message says 5 months. I am gonna be 5 yr post-op also this year, the anemia thing may be going on, get checked! I had a double hernia repair w/ t tuck 3 years ago and had to have blood transfusions after, they left me anemic and thought I'd regain my own blood supply, I didn't, I couldn't! I have iron thru IV and b-12 shots regularly. It's made a world of difference for me! I had also gained weight , took it almost all off within 2 months of having these treatments done. I have other health problems from the surgery but this was a great thing to find out, I found out I wasn't CRAZY (had me on 150mg of Zoloft) which I thought I was!
