i am a bmi of 40, what qualifies you for lap-banding?
i have heart problem and am 55 yrs old. i just got insurance that will cover it and am waiting to schedule my 1st appt. what does the bmi have to be to qualify to get the surgery done. i am so afraid i will go thru all this and the doctor will tell me no. — jddavis (posted on March 9, 2006)

I believe your bmi needs to be over 35 to have surgery if you have health
conditions and 40 if no health conditions. I hope the best for you.

From my experience, Tanya's right. Keep the appointment and talk this over
with the doctor; he or she can give you much more detailed information.

Generally, a BMI of 40+ without any co-morbids will qualify you for any of
the weight loss surgeries. If you are just starting this journey, please
do all your research and know what your options are. There are good and
bad with every weight loss surgery. Good Luck.
