Question:
Why do I have to wait when I'm not going anywhere?
My BMI is 41 I am in the military and my weight has been an issue since I came in. After trying everything this is my last resort; I get a referel from my provider to see a surgeon but instead I get put on a waiting list for 2 years and the reason is because I am active duty and would be non-deployable, but I am already non-deployable because of my weight. So I am basically going around in circles trying to lose weight so that I can be deloyable. — Latasha S. (posted on October 19, 2005)

Sorry that I do not really have an answer, excep[t to ask if you really
expect4d the military to make sense. Is there an appeals process or
someone, like aa chaplain, who would be willing to go to bat for you?
Good luck.

My hubby is military. I had the surgery thru the tricare insurance. You
need to go back to your provider and let them know what is going on. You
may need to get your commander involved also. I'm not sure I understand
why you would be non-deployable after the surgery...well at least not after
teh first 6 months or so. However, like was stated in the other
answer...do we really expect the military to make sense??? LOL Appeal the
decision...get your pcp involved in it...maybe your commander (if they are
supportive). Good luck. Carmen

i recently went through wls on fort bragg and the policy was they do not
perform this surgery on active duty, if you plan on stayingin the service
they will not perform this on you is my understanding when i met with the
cheif of surgery. You could not be deployed fro your diet...you couldnt eat
the mre's is what i understand the problem to be.
