Question:
Anyone experience problems with hearburn and acid reflux 8 years after Gastric Bypass

I have been having trouble with heartburn and acid reflux for about 2 months now. I had my surgery 8 years ago. I am on Nexium and Carafate which are not working. I have an appointment to go back to my GI doctor in the beginning of February as my PCP feels she needs to explore what is going on because I have had gastric bypass surgery. I am miserble. I have enough other health issues to deal with without adding something else. Is there anyone else who has experienced this problem?    — Jennifer R. (posted on January 10, 2010)

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have had many yrs of peptic ulcer disease as well as GERD and other GI issues. I have been on pretty much every kind of reflux meds out there. Over the past 4 yrs my gi doctor had to swith me to aciphex as well as caraphate in high doses. This may be the only thing that is wrong. Maybe your body has become adjusted to the Nexium and the doctor may want to try you on something else. It will be ok. You are doing good by going to see your doctor right away. Good luck. Dawn

I had RNY three years ago and started having acid reflux about a year later. it was so bad that I woke up during the night with my throat and esophagus "on fire". I was put on nexium and stopped eating four hours before I go to bed and that seems to work. My doctor-brother and my PCP told me to never take acid reflux lightly.

I had RNY in 2002 & had non problems for over a year. I then started feeling nauseated every time I ate. I have recently come to think that a EGD done on me, where staples were removed from my stomach, has caused the whole nausea issue. After that EGD the Dr. put me on Reglan 10mg 4xday. This worked for a couple years...now I'm having problems with nausea again & am being studied by a Digestive Specialist to determine what's going on. I just thought of the EGD today, so I haven't mentioned that to him, but I'm willing to put money on the fact that the Dr. that did the EGD removing staples SCREWED up my by-pass!!!
