Question:
anyone with a history or sarcoid with bypass?Sore tongue
I had sarcoid, but do not have to take medication. I also have chronic yeast infections I do use diflucan on reg. basis and my tongue has these slits in it like paper cuts. My PCP and surgeon says this is not an issue, but I worry about immune and vitiman problems. Has anyone experienced these problems and had the surgery? — garciacsmaples (posted on January 7, 2009)

Some would call this a "fissured tongue"- you can do a google
search and read quite a bit about it. Sounds pretty benign. I would
recommend that you brush your tongue a couple of times a day to be sure to
get all food and debris out of there so as not to aggravate it. Rinsing
with mouthwash can help too. Best of luck.

years ago i suffered from this too.I'd go to the Dr and he would send me to
the dentist, the dentist would send me to the Dr,round and round only
sometimes with temp.relief.Then my asthma got so bad i had to go to an
allergist.Low and behold mine was caused from some food allergies that i
had developed. What a relief as soon as i stopped consuming them my mouth
got well and stays well.It also helped my asthma.Good luck I remember how
miserable I was for such a long time.

I Had sarcoid as well. and have been in remission for several years, yet
still have some of the joint pain from it. Especially in my hands and
wrists. MY primary sight was my lungs and I have had some lung issues the
last 2 years but never any tongue issues. I have read a lot about sarcoid
as it is not diagnosed very often. I know that sarcoid can effect different
organs but not sure about the tongue. it almost sounds to me that the
tongue could be related to your yeast issues. I agree with Dawn about the
fissures- try what she reccomeended, sounds like good advice. I have not
had my WLS as of yet, but am in the process. Good luck with your WL
journey. I hope your tongue does get better, i know that when something is
wrong with your teeth or mouth it can be such a bother! Have a wonderful
day. Cora RN

I have sarcoid and addison disease. I take methotrexate and it makes my
tongue and mouth sore. I do take meds when it gets really bad but most of
the time salt water rinse and yogurt helps.

I suffered from chronic yeast infections on my skin for YEARS. Once I
discovered that I was ALLERGIC to yeast and quit eating food that contained
it (yep, no more BREAD), the problem went away. You may want to consider
trying to stop consuming yeast containing foods. It isn't EASY, since once
you start LOOKING, you find yeast in just about EVERYTHING including things
you wouldn't THINK to look in, but once you DO that, you will probably find
relief. Unfortunately, I do not know what to do to help you with your
sarcoid. I would HIGHLY recommend an allergy test in any case. Many times
health problems can be caused or aggravated by allergies. Once you get rid
of the TRIGGERS (the allergens) you can often find relief from the
SYMPTOMS. I hope this helps. Hugh

Listen to the other posters,
fissure tongue, allergies have this checked out by a doc who is not
familiar with your past medical history. That will put a fresh pair of
eyes on it. Definitely have the allergies checked. Brush your tongue and
use mouthwash. It will help. See if you can change from diflucan to
another med for a while to let your immune system rest.
Keep us posted.

DO NOT BRUSH YOUR TONGUE! I have this problem, my whole mouth is hot,
tongue hurts, and mouth tastes metalic. and have seen an Ear, Nose, and
Throat Doc. The problem is that you have lost all your flora and fona on
your tongue. Brushing it will make it worse. Besides all the flora and
fona being gone, my taste buds are gone in that area. She thinks I have a
mineral deficiency. I've been put on this stuff called vitamins plus.
It's 17 fruits and veges. pureed, and all the water and sugar taken out.
What's left is vits. & minerals and fiber. Iv'e been on them for a
month now and my tongue isn't nearly as bad as it use to be. I too was on
Diflucan and Nystantin and they had no effect on my tongue. Talk to your
bariatric surgeon and see what he/she recomends. This is not an uncommon
thing among wls people, since the stomach is cut off, which has a lot of
acid and stomach juices that balanced out what's on the tongue. Good Luck
and DO NOT BRUSH YOUR TONGUE! Paula
