Question:
anyone have diareah immediately following an upper GI with small bowel series?

I live about a mile from my hospital and before I left there they kept saying drink lots of fluids to keep from getting constipated...but, I barely made it home with running to the bathroom diareah. Is this due to the Bariatric surgery or should I be concerned.    — Melissa M. (posted on June 13, 2007)

i am a nurse and will tell you that diarrhea is very common after an upper gi. it's due to the contrast they make you drink. the reason they tell you to drink plenty of fluids is because sometimes after the diarrhea phase the contrast that's still in your intestines thickens up and will constipate you. it's good to have the diarrhea and get it all out and the it usually only last a couple hours. hope this helps!

It is from the contrast that you have to drink. I have had many CTs, uppers and lowers in my life and have had the runs each time. You will be ok, it is not from your WLS.

yes i had constant diareha. the dr gave me kaopetec to stop it.
