Question:
birth control : mirena (IUD)
recently at my last gyno appointment my dr and i spoke about birth control option. She didn't want to put me on any pills because my blood pressure is borderline, anyway so she suggested MIRENA the IUD...she gave me some information on it... also i looked up in the questions but most of the answers were old ... so if you use this as a method of birth control, does it work for you ? have you had any complications? — pixiefairy (posted on February 17, 2007)

I had this IUD put in 2 years ago. I LOVE it. There was some spotting for
the first 6 months, BUT, once that stopped My periods (if you can call them
that!!) are AWESOME. No complications at all. I recommend this IUD to all
My friends of My age that are done having children. No pills to have to
take, no shots, and its good for 5 years. As I said, there was lots of
spotting for Me the first 6 months, but once My body regulated the local
hormone..its been better than smooooth sailing ever since!!!

I had my IUD placed in July of 06. It works perfectly. I have had some
seriously heavy periods, but nothing I can't handle. and best of all NO
pills!!

I absolutely love my mirena!!!! I haven't had periods in over a year, and
absolutely zero discomfort. With the 'traditional' IUD, I always had
cramping and really heavy periods. This is awesome and I would recommend
it to anyone if you are in a monogamous relationship.

I opted for a non harmonal IUD that is supposed to be good for 10 years. I
am 11 weeks post op, the Iud has been in for a month. I have not had
another period yet, but I have had "stuff" leaking out. (sorry
to be gross) I actually was concerned enough to go back to the obgyn and
he said everything was ok... tests came back ok as well. I would say that
if the leaking goo does not stop, I am not thrilled with this as my
birthcontrol choice.

I had my mirena placed one year ago and so far so good. I have 2 children
and don't plan on any more. So if you don't plan on having children again
(although you can have it removed to do so) it might be a great option.
I'm very happy with mine!

I had a traditional IUD and ended up with an ectopic pregnancy the
following month. I ended up having to have the tube removed as well as the
IUD. I don't know about the MIRENA but I wouldn't go with the traditional
one. I also know of quite a few people that this also happened to.

I have just recently had my Mirena inserted for the 2nd time. I love it, I
havent had any problems with it and would highly recommend it. Even after
my surgery my periods have been still close to nothing, a little spotting
here and there but nothing major, considering I did not have one prior to
my surgery date. I dont think you have anything to worry about.

I had an IUD years ago, I loved it, but my sister did get pregnant and had
to have her tube removed. But as far as myself I didn't give up my IUD. I
don't like having to remember a pill got enough of those already, but with
the IUD I spotted more on my period with the first one, but the second one
I was more regular. I would recommend it to anyone, nothing is 100% safe
but no sex, or hysterectomy, so I'd give it a try. If you don't like it
they can always remove it.
