Question:
When for losing hair??
I am 7 weeks post-op and try very hard to get in lots of protein, not sure that I am getting the full amount. I hear a lot about losing hair, does anyone know when this will start if I am not getting enough protein? Am I in the clear since I haven't had any? Thanks in advance! I was told about 3 months out you will start to lose your hair and you
really need to get the protein in Im 5'2 and my Doctor has me getting at
least 59 grams a day. However if you are losing fast your hair may turn
loose anyway it is the bodys way of reacting to the starvation and the
shock of all the weight loss. Good luck I pray I keep mine too.

I am 4 years out. Hair loss usually starts anywhere from 3 to 6 months and
it happens to everybody. But the hair does grow back. My level for protein
is 68 grams. I know it is difficult at first to do this. You need to put
protein in everything you drink. There are alot of good products out there
to do this. Phyllis A

Hi..
If you go to your local wal-mart.. they sell pills called BIOTIN... and it
works wonders for hair before or when it starts falling out...
My hair started falling out about 3 months after I had weight loss
surgery.. pantene is suppose to be good for hair also!

Mine started falling out at around 3 months even though I was faithfully
getting in 80-90 grams of protein daily. But, it only lasted about 4-6
weeks and then it started growing back. Now, a little over a year after my
surgery I am 120 lbs. lighter and have the most beautiful, healthy, shiny
hair I've ever had in my life!!
Best wishes. Hugs, Pamela

Kim, most that lose hair seem to start losing it about 3 months post-op,
but in my case I was 5 months post-op so....with that being said, all of us
are different, some don't lose hair, some lose a little (me) and others
lose significant amounts. Not only is the hair lose due to weight loss but
anesthesia alone can cause you to lose hair. Try to focus on eating
healthy and taking care of yourself, yes it can be stressful when the hair
begins falling out but it does grow back, I have new growth everywhere. I
consider it a minor drawback, my health is 110% better than before surgery.

I agree with both posters -- I started sheading at around my 3rd month --
and I was told to get no less that 75 grams of protein per day -- I have
also started using Nioxin shampoo and taking biotin -- this seems to be
helping me.. I hope this helps...

I started losing hair by the handsful in my 6th month postop--I was so
upset! It got so thin on top! According to my lab work-my protein level was
fine. Just keep eating protein- it does come back- I am 12 months post op
(praise the Lord!) my hair loss lasted about 2 months.

KIM IF YOU GET IN AT LEAST 120 GRAMS OF PROTIEN A DAY YOU WILL NOT LOSE
HAIR. DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE WHO SAY YOU NEED TO GET YOUR PROTEIN FROM
FOODS. GO TO THE HEALTH FOOD STORE VITIAM WORLD AND BUT THE LIQUID PROTEIN
BY TWIN LABB. AND TAKE IT FAITHFULLY BELIEVE ME IT WORKS THREE YEARS PO-OP
AND A HEAD FULL OF HAIR.
