Question:
Is there anyone out there that can't take oral iron due to constipation?
I am in process of scheduling WLS but I'm really concerned about the iron issue; Oral iron leads to constipation for me no matter how small the dose. Any advice? Words of wisdom? I keep telling that to the Drs. butI get no concrete response. It's like they don't believe me. I have a visit this coming friday with the WLS surgeon-Feb 11 and I'd like to be prepared; Thanks — genisiswoman2011 (posted on February 6, 2011)

I take one that doesn't constipate, I have had major problems with
constipation forever, since the surgery it is only got worse. I know we
must have iron so I found the one that doesn't bother me. I think it is
Solgar, but right now I take one from NOW.

A brand at Walmart called Feosol is gentle but the best I've found is
Gentle Iron from Vitalady. For constipation itself you can use Miralax
daily if needed and it's safe, won't cause dependency, cramping, etc.
There are no stimulants in it. Stool softeners are often advised but I
never found them to work for me.

make sure. some days feel miserable because constipated or diarhea.don't
eat meat, only eat lots of veggies w/fiber and still have issues.

I take Bariatric Advantage's iron chews. They are made with Carbonyl Iron
that is easier on the digestive system and I don't have that problem. But
if you do then buying the Benefiber packets and putting them in your food
and drink will be the best thing to combat it. Hope this helps!
