Question:
Has anyone had to buy smaller shoes after surgery?
Obviously everyone has to buy smaller clothes after surgery but has anyone had to buy smaller shoes. I have heard some say your feet get smaller and others say your feet just get thinner so you may no longer need a wide width for example. Anyone experienced this post op? — My1Comp (posted on June 6, 2009)

I too had to buy smaller shoes. Who knew!! I had no idea that my feet would
get smaller. Depending on how the shoe is made, I can go down a whole size
smaller.

Yes, my feet are at least 1/2 to 1 1/2 sizes smaller depending on type of
shoe. I wore a shoe a few weeks ago and almost lost one while walking
into church. Gave me a good excuse to get a new pair!! :-)

Absolutely.... and not just post-op. Every other time I've lost a
significant amount of weight, I've also gone down in shoe size. Sometimes
just a half size, but others a whole shoe size down! Lucky for me I'm not
addicted to shoes like I was when I was much younger!! I'd have a real
problem on my hands. Now, I'm just happy with my very comfortable
Merrills.

Yes, I had to buy new shoes as well. I lost a full shoe size, and I still
have another 40# to lose. I also lost a good bit in my mouth, as my upper
denture doesn't stay put. I had LapBand last November, have lost 80# so far
and I know it is useless to get new dentures, besides, I am limited in what
I eat with my teeth loose! LOL*

I wore a 5 1/2 when I had my son at 21, I wore a size 7 1/2 at wt. 224. I
now wear a 6. I had some really cool shoes I can't wear now either
especially high heeled sandals. I walk right out of them. hah!

yeah, me too! so crazy as I NEVER thought I would go down in shoe sizes
too. I started at 345 and a size 9-10 depending on the shoe. Now, i am
220 (still have about 30-40lbs to get to goal) but I am between a 7-8 shoe
size. I don't do fancy dress shoes...I wear a LOT of Docs (Doc Martens)
and I had to replace my docs. It wasn't that expensive to do thanks to
Ebay. But, I was so happily surprised at losing shoe sizes! woohoo!

because it is a good thing.

Hi,
Yes, my feet were for sure wider. I wore a size 8 before I got heavy, then
after all my weight gain, I went up to a size 9-9.5 depending on the shoe.
Now that I have lost my weight I am back down to the size 8. The first
thing I thought was that I am done growing, why are my feet bigger. lol
I am happy to know that I was able to get back into my original size. I
also noticed that when I was heavy that my arches in my feet were almost
flat and with the weight gain I also developed Plantar Fasciitis, which
required surgery on one foot for starters, then I had the RNY and got a new
job and my feet got better. Best wishes,
Kristy

Well I have not had surgery but I can tell you that when I lost weight on
past diets my feet definetly got smaller. Yes you don't need the wide
widths but you also need a smaller shoe size. Weird huh?

I went from a 10WW to an 8.5W in shoes. I never imagined my shoe size
would change so much. I just love that I can wear more styles now.
