Question:
Tummy Tuck with Hernia Repair. Plastic or General Surgeon?
I am ready to get my tummy taken care of! I've had all the children I can and I've maintained my weightloss for 5 years. Now, who do I see to do this in to get the best shot at insurance coverage? Should I see a plastic surgeon or general? Help!! Thanks so much everyone! — Pambylah (posted on March 5, 2009)

If I were you, I would see a plastic surgeon. I went to one and I know
someone else who went to a general surgeon. The plastic surgeon definately
did a better job.

Hi Pamela,
You might want to post your question on the Plastic Surgery board. You
would get alot of really great information from the folks there.

You definately want a Board Certified Surgeon. You can shop around and will
find that the price varies. Go with who you are most comfortable with and
also make sure all of your questions are answered. There are free consults
as well as ones you pay for.It surely pays to shop around.I just had
surgery and am "pleased as punch", with the surgeon I chose.
Believe it or not...he was the cheapest.(he was $1000's less)Best wishes to
you on this journey.

A Plastic Surgeon is the best choice in my opinion.

I agree with the above. A plastic surgeon is best. As for insurance
purposes, they will pay for the hernia repair as they would a general
surgeon, but the tummy tuck will have to be paid out of pocket.

It's not true that insurance won't cover a tummy tuck. They just need a
medical reason for it. I have been documenting my skin problems in that
area, where skin touches skin I get these unsightly yeast infestations that
require thrice daily attention. Also, I have degenerative disk disease in
my lower lumbar, and having the "nap" taken off would definitely
reduce stress to my lower spine. These are the justifications that my
bariatric surgeon has told me would be acceptable to the insurance company.
