Question:
Support groups, Doctor, and a good hospital in Colorado, Denver or Colorado Springs?

Hello My New Family, My husband just got word that he is being transfered in May from Illinois to Elizabeth, Colorado. It is in between Denver and Colorado Springs. I am now looking for a new Doctor, Hospital, and support groups. Any recomendations? I could sure use them and cut my stress level down a little bit. I am post-op RNY 5 months, I am down 100 lbs, and not having any problems, but I would like to have my bases covered for that "just in case." Because I just don't want to take any chances. Thank you for helping me! Marla    — prudee2 (posted on March 2, 2009)

Drs. Brown and Metz at Colorado Bariatrics are great. They are in Denver by St. Luke's hospital. Their number is (303 861-4505. Good luck! I used to live in Parker which is not far from Elizabeth. I still have friends living in Elizabeth. I'm sure you'll like it there.

Dr. Frank Chae is at Skyridge in Lone Tree which maybe the closest for you. He will be doing my lap band at the end of the month. He is very nice and has a great office staff.

Dr Brown at St. Lukes Pres. is fantastic. If you end up with Kaiser insurance they have their own support groups in Denver- there is supposedly one at Penrose in Colo Springs but I have heard they are not great supporters of Kaiser so I simply go up to Denver a couple of times a year. Good luck on the move- I am 3 years post op and lost about 150# which puts me well below what Dr. Brown that I would do- however we have had a lot of stress the past 4-6 weeks with job loss, family issues and my husband having open heart surgery and I have put on 3-4 pounds simply from not watching my food or exercising. I need to get back on the wagon. Hope you have a great move and enjoy your time here.

Dr. Chae at SkyRidge Med center...would be the closest to you and his team are great! I highly recommend them...I have had nothing but good things & times with them. Susie is overworked, but is a total doll and Kelly the nutritionist is the MOST AWESOME nutritionist ever!

I researched for 18 months before selecting Dr. Michael Snyder at Denver Beriatrics (http://www.denverbariatrics.com/default). What impressed me most was that on the patient reviews here on the Obesity Help website, there were something like eighteen hundred reviews at the time and the only negative thing said was that his office staff was sometimes slow to return calls! Not one bad thing was said about Dr. Snyder, which blew me away. When I met him I understood - he is knowledgable, has vast experience, and is engaging. I am under the impression he had some staffing issues previously, but I've not had any problems myself. He has a wonderful dietician, his nurses are caring, skilled and never make me feel rushed, and (since I live out of state) the scheduling staff work with me to coordinate my visits when needed. I also recall his staff mentioning that Dr. Snyder has a number of patients for whom he did not perform surgery, so I don't think that's a particular problem for him. Good luck, God Bless, and welcome to the area! Julie Preston, RN

I'd have to go with Dr. Snyder. He did my surgery two days ago, and I am already home. I was so prepared for what was going to happen. Also, Rose Medical Center is a Center for Bariatric Excellence. His registered dietician is great, and so is his staff. I stongly suggest you check into him.. His webpage is www.DenverBariatrics.com
