i had gastric bypass 4/14/08 only lost 54 lbs and I am not happy at all, My question that I am going to ask my doc. on wed,4, is about revision. is it too soon to have a revision and can me have a band after a bypass. I have been beating my self up walk and working out hard, but nothing is changing What is wrong with me. Jennie — zydeko47 (posted on March 2, 2009)

I'm guessing you'll need to journal your food, supplement, and fluid intake
for a few weeks. Then take it to a local support group or a nutrionist for
discussion. You may be some help on portion control or choice of higher
protein, lower refined carb foods. DAVE

Jeannie Agree with Dave Do a journel of eating n drinking
NO NO sugar in any form Diet anything including JELLO
Read labels. Plateau's are bad but really need every bite you take
written down. Sugar is in form of molasses- futouse- glouse- sobital-
maybe too much natural fruits or carbs.. Really think about what you
have been eating..
Don't give up - you have come a long way. Good luck.
Check with the surgeon or their staff How many fills have you had

since it has not even been a year it is unlikely they will consider a
revision yet. But they can take a look and see it maybe the stoma is too
large. It is easy at least for me to eat foods that are not good for me,
that are high in salt or fats. Watch the labels. Sit down with a dietian
and figurer out an eatting plan and stick to it. Did you lose and regain or
have you just hit a plateu?

Jennie... I suggest that you get back with your surgeon. I am sure that
they are going to have you keep an ACCURATE food, exercise and supplement
diary. I am guessing that your lack of weight loss lies somewhere in
there. That will be the first step. If you are adhering strictly to what
you are supposed to be doing.. measuring your food, etc and not eating
until you are full, then the doctor can discuss other options with you.
First step.... diary and looking inward... good luck...

I have to agree with the others about keeping an accurate journal, but
there is such a thing as the banded RNY. You also may want to consider a
revision to the Duodenal Switch if you do have a revision. It is the most
effective weight loss procedure currently available today.

Are you sure you are getting enough calories? The body will not shed weight
if it thinks it's being starved. It hasn't even been a year so give it a
try. I'm sure you're having your labs checked. Iron deficiency could be a
problem. Keep up the good work - at least you've lost 54 pounds. You will
loose more if you're eating properly.

Jennie, I think you need to talk to a bariatric nutritionist. I assume your
Dr works with one. There are reasons why you are not losing, and it has to
do with what and how you are eating. Journaling will help the NUT to see
what you are doing wrong.
I wouldn't just jump into a revision until I have looked into why the
bypass hasn't worked for you. You can eat around any WLS and, if that is
the issue, your problems won't just go away with another surgery.

When you see your doc on weds...ask him to run ALL your vitamin labs and
tests for deficiencies and your blood for other problems! These are the
test I have run every 6 month to a year depending on how my levels
are...CBC w/diff, CMP, Lipid Panel, LD or LDH, PO4, UA, B-12 and folate,
B-1, B-6,Iron and TIBC, Ferritin, Vit A and E, Vit D, Thyroid Panel, Zinc,
PTH Intact, MG RCB(Magnesium), Cortisol, Selenium, HB A1C.... I get these
all done EVERY visit! If your doc is not taking some 18 to 20 tubes of
blood, he's not checking you out completely. My PCP is not a bariatric doc
and no one in the entire clinic has any experience in bariatrics. My Doc
is more than happy and even encourages me to tell her what tests I want run
and how my body works. She loves that I educate her and take care of
myself! If your doc doesn't believe you need all these tests, you turn
around and tell him it's YOUR right to want to know that your ALTERED body
is functioning properly and it is your right to have these tests done to
insure long term health and prevent problems! Always remember that the
doctor works for YOU! Don't let them intimidate you...You have a right to
these tests and they ARE important yearly! Get copies of the results and if
you do not know how to read them, you make another appt w/your doc to go
over the labs line by line! ASk which ones are low or are getting low! If
there is something wrong, it could be why you are not losing weight.
