Question:
what should I do?
I am almost done all necessary test and just waiting for my sleep study results which shiuld be next week before it can go to insurance. The problem is I wanted it in June when school ends and I will be off work but they are booked for then and working in July now. I am afraid I may not be able to get in in July before they will be full. So I am now considering changing to another office. whar do you think. I feel guilty because this office has already taken care of almost everything already. — jbuller43 (posted on May 13, 2008)

Well, in my opinion from hearing people in our support groups and having
gone through surgery, I would stick with your current surgeon. One,
typically you can go back to work after a week or two, so as long as
you're out of work for July too, that should work out for you. Also, a
lot of offices use particular doctors and tests that might not transfer to
another doctors. That would put you right back in the beginning of the
process and your insurance probably wouldn't cover it. I had wanted to get
my surgery done over spring break and had to wait a month longer and it was
very frustrating. But I'm glad I stuck it out with a doctor and staff that
knew me and my history and that I felt comfortable with. Good luck!

Perhaps things are working out this way for a reason. Be patient, this
office already has your history and you've developed a relationship with
them, that is just as important as the surgery itself.

Maybe if you explain your situation and concern, they could put you in if
there is a cancellation...or maybe you could just see how they react if you
tell them you might have to consider a different doctor because you already
have time off when they are booked...You may be able to negociate a better
date! Worth a try! I would!

Like the others, I would stick with the doc you have if you are happy with
that office. Your insurance should only take about 2 weeks for approval.
You're in a much better place now than if you were to start all over. Good
luck.

I think you should stick where you are. This has become a very popular
operation and you may face the same issue going somewhere else. The time
will allow for you to really be sure that this is right for you. Best of
Luck,

I think you should stay put right where you are. You've come so far with
them, and together you guys have done so much in preparation for surgery.
To start over somewhere else could lead to an even longer delay. I went
from one surgeon to another because of their stupidity which is a whole
other issue in itself.... but I am telling you it can be a PITA. Also you
may not qualify going somewhere else. When I started my BMI was one number
and by the time I got done with all the presurgical testing and was given a
date by the original office I had lost the 10% that I needed to before
surgery and the new doctor's office said I didn't qualify for surgery. To
make a long story short I had my surgery april 2nd but please stay put.

I agree that as long as you are comfortable and confident in the doctor you
are now with, you should stay with that doctor. I changed doctors because
the doctor was unwilling to do the RYN on me and told me two days before I
was scheduled for surgery and had already paid him for it and paid all the
program fees. I had be re-qualified through the insurance. Call your doctor
and explain the situation, I am sure they will be willing to work with you.

Call youy Doc and tell him about your problems. I find they will work woth
you but you have go to communicate with them. Also a busy surgeon is
usually one of the better ones, so I would not hunt out the new guy wilth
little experence. Just pick up the phone and I bet they will do what they
can to meet your requirements. If not, they will try and you need to stick
with the guys that have done the work. Best of success to you.

Don't feel guilty. They get paid quite well for what they do. YOU are the
focal point for your surgery, not the surgeon or his/her staff. Do what is
right for YOU -- and do it without guilt!

I was in the same situation. By the time the insurance approved the
surgery it was the last wk. of July when I could have my surgery. I had to
return to work the end of August. If you feel at peace with the Dr. wait.
It will be worth it in the end. Besides your original Dr. knows you
already as well as your medical history.

I would stay where you are. These are people you know and hopefully trust
and feel comfortable with. You will unlikely find a quicker date anywhere.
Since you know your sleep study is scheduled why don't you call them and
see if they will schedule you and put you on a cancellation list. Explain
your situation to them. I'm sure they will be as accommodating as
possible. You may just get in in June because someone else needs to cancel.
Happens all the time. Don't fret. :) Laura

Jacqueline: I would consider staying where you're at since you have come
this far with the group. I would explain your situation to them and see if
they could go ahead and schedule you in July...and possibly postpone if the
approval doesn't go through in time...and maybe they could set you up on
standby for June, too. Of course, all of this is pending insurance
finalization and approval, but good luck to you!
