Question:
Tattoos
I am 6 months post gastric bypass and am looking to get a tattoo(my 1st) for my birthday. I have the artist picked out and have designed my tattoo but I am looking for advice as to where to put it keeping future plastic surgery in mind. My choices in order of preference are top of my foot, shoulder blade, lower back (center) and ankle. Any input would be appreciated! — buffy_CT (posted on April 24, 2007)

If you are planning on plastic surgery, it is my understanding that the
lower back would be out, because of the full body tuck. If you needed
that, I would say the top of your foot, not to much skin there to begin
with, even the ankle, depending on if you think your ankles are large now.
My suggestion would be the to of the foot. Once you get your first they
are addicting! FYI I have 3 and want at least 1 more.

I have two tattoo's pre surgery. Lower back - just above my fanny and
inside right ankle. I would go with the foot or ankle for now....play it
safe for future plastic surgery adventures. Once you are done with
that...then go to town.

Definately the top of your foot or high on the back of your shoulder.
Either one is fine with a lot of weight loss. I have 2. One is on my back
(at my shoulder) and the other is above my ankle. Good luck and
enjoy!!!!!!

I got a tattoo when I turned 40. It's on the back of my ankle above my
heel. I kind of like the idea of the top of your foot.

My sister just got a tattoo on the top of her foot and it looks awesome!!
She also said that there was very little pain there, so I would go with the
top of the foot!

I agree with everyone else ! I am looking forward to going to a family
reunion , in August & looking forward to all of us women, getting tats.
I am opting for the ankle, since plastic surgery will definitely be a part
of my future. I had never thought of one of the top of the foot...that
sounds interesting. Have fun with it!

Good for you! I got my first tat after I reached goal. :) It is in the
middle of my shoulder blades, up real high on my back. I'd say that and
the foot or ankle is safe. Others may be fine too but for now...play it
safe, ya know? My next tattoo is going to be an anklet, like a rose vine
or something...haven't decided yet. Good luck! ~Sarah in VA

I love tattoos, I already have two and planning on getting more. I have one
on my right ankle, which didn't hurt at all. I also have one on the top of
my foot and it hurted like hell, but its looks cute there.

I have a tattoo on my shoulder and ankle (2 or 3 inches above) and it was
not affected my plastic surgery. I also have a tattoo on the base of my
neck--it is the coolest one I have. When I wear my hair up, everyone asks
about it.

you do not want to put a tat on the top of your foot -- wearing shoes and
socks all the time and the rubbing of the skin will wear out the color --
any respectable artist will give you the same story :) since you will not
have surgery on your ankle then that will be a wise a choice -- and since
you won't be having surgery on your shoulder blade that also will be a good
idea -- i have a tattoo that i put alot of thought into when i was 30 --
it's on my ankle -- i can hide it if i want and show it off if i want --
good luck -- and remember, this will be with you for LIFE!! get something
that you will still want when you are 65 :)

I would suggest the top of your foot. My tattoo is on the top of my foot
and I love it. It's a nice spot to have a tattoo. easy to cover up and
hide if you want and really looks cure with sandals. Good Luck!
