Question:
Need Hints, tips, etc for getting insurance to pay for plastics

I am a single Mom and therefore money is not plentiful. My insurance Medical Mutual of Ohio Super Med PPO has been known to pay for tummy tucks, but I've not heard about the other stuff. Is there sample letters, or statement regarding how to get insurance to at least consider the medical necessity of such things? My friend got her breast lift, thighs, arms, and tummy done via her insurance but she doesn't know how she did it...meaning she didn't do anything special...her doc just submitted to her insurance. She didn't write any special letters just had pictures. So she's no help as she doesn't know a darn thing! LOL. Thanks!    — T S. (posted on February 15, 2006)

I have heard from people that your Dr should doccument EVERYTHING (as in any rashes, sores or whatever) so that your He/she can show its medical not cosmetic. And one person told me that they went to a psychiatrist to complain how it made them feel...low self-esteem and so on and they were approved because it was then considered mental well being. So I guess there are a couple different ways to go about it....hope that helped a bit

Take lots and lots of pictures of any sores/rashes you get anywhere you want lifted. I submitted at least 50 pictures of my tummy, arms, thighs and butt to my insurance. They paid for the tummy tuck and arm lift, none of it would have been paid for if not for the pictures.
