Question:
Is anyone else here concerned?

I have been reading numerous articles about the dangers of aspartame, and am concerned. And, since when nutrasweet was first introduced, it was considered the "safe" alternative to saccharin, what should we think about sucralose? How harmful will that turn out to be in the next couple years? Is anyone using "stevia"? From my research, and according to my father-in-law, a diabetic and holistic, this seems to be the safest alternative.    — AMY J. (posted on February 3, 2003)

Just because something is "natural" does not mean it is safe. There are many dangers in a health food store. Aspartame is made from 2 amino acids that occur naturally in the body and it also contains methanol. Methanol occurs in many of the foods we eat. For example, there is 6 times more methanol in 4 oz. of tomato juice than their is in a packet of Equal. Sucralose is made from real sugar, is that not natural?? It is broken down into a composition that stays in your gut and is not absorbed.

Very good point, there are those that point out that sucralose is chlorinated sugar... so who knows what all the extra chlorine molecules may be doing to our bodies? Sugar is bad, nutrasweet is bad, sucralose may be... who knows? I haven't heard anything bad about stevia... but I don't like the taste! good luck!
