Question:
I have pain in my stomach, feels like a rubber band snapping me.
I had gastric Bypass surgery March 2009, seems to be pretty successful but now I'm experincing a pain in my stomach, it's on the lower left side, feels like a rubber band snapping me internally, the pain doesn't last long, and I'm wondering if this is something I should be worried about. — jeweleez (posted on June 25, 2010)

Hi, I had surgery in March 2009 and recently got pretty ill with pains.
Turns out I had a twisted bowel/internal hernia. Do see a doctor at once.
In fact, if you can, see your gastric bypass surgeon. I had a CT scan and
an MRI enterography to show what was going on in there. It's been 3 weeks
since the surgery to fix it and I'm not sure I feel a whole lot better
though. They started doing it laparoscopically and I would go home the same
day, but they had to cut me open and kept me in the hospital for several
days. I am just starting to feel a bit better now, but I'm glad that they
took care of it because I read on this website that it could have become
gangrenous if I had waited too long and oxygen was cut off in my
intestines. I am 15 months out like you and was kind of surprised that this
happened out of the blue.
I hope everything works out for you and you see a doctor at once to rule
out any dire complications. Let me know.

Please call Doctor or Surgeon as soon as possible. I came within two hours
of dying because of internal hernia. I had the same symtoms as you. My
husband came home and found me in extreme pain and rushed me to hospital
himself. What happens as explained to me is we lose so much weight so fast
we are shinking fat cells so fat masses turn thin lacy sponge like. The fat
has held the organs in place and now the fat can not do that. The fat cells
have not the strengh as when we were obese. I went from size 26, 3X to size
2 in one year so you can imagine my fat cells were not able to hold my
intestines in place and the intestines kinked and wrapped around my bowel
and cut off blood supply. When my surgeon opened me up my bowel was black
and dying.
