Question:
nausea

How long does the nausea last. I felt great when eating the soups, now adding solid foods I am getting nausea after I eat. Lasts for quite awhile. Is this something that will pass as time goes on? I am not sorry that I had the surgery, but I am praying this doesn't last a real long time. And, no I haven't called my dr yet. I have an ppt. this coming week.    — teresasmiles (posted on March 19, 2008)

Sounds like you are 6 weeks out of a RNY. Get your doctor toperscribe some medication for ulcers and take it one hour before eating. It coats the raw scars in your pouch and gut and keep harder foods like meat and checken from upsetting your pouch and making you feel like you want to throw up. After 2 months things get better. It was hard for me to come from soft to solid food too. Things are great now and I would do it all over again. Best of Sucess to you.

Gas X was my friend as I transitioned into yr stage. The nausea lasted about 3 weeks. The Gas X did help the majority of the time. Good luck, God bless and welcome to the losing side! It DOES get better so hang in there!

Hi When I started eating "food" I went through that too. After I ate I had to lie down for about half an hour till it passed. Yes, eventually it does go away. Just remember take your time eating and chew, chew, chew. Best of Luck

For most everybody, the nausea passes. I had it, too, and asked my doctor at two weeks to prescribe something for me because it had been so bad. As it turns out, I didn't need the medication. The nausea passed, although it seemed to take a long time. Even though I felt like I was eating slowly and chewing, chewing, chewing (and I was for someone who had not had WLS), I found that I could chew longer and eat slower than I thought possible. The nausea became less and I became more adventurous in what I tried to eat in the way of "solid" foods (that brings on a whole new phase, LOL). I am over 9 weeks out and still can't seem to eat grilled chicken (one of my favorite things) or any kind of eggs. I trust this will pass, too.

If you are in ketosis, the ketones (which are in your saliva) will irritate your pouch--- it can be very arduous, but it means you are burning your fat stores! This could be kicking in now if you are getting more protein into your system. It's also possible that you are taking bites that are too big or not chewing your food well enough for your pouch. Lastly, if this happening every time you eat, you should see your doctor sooner rather later (as you could have a small obstruction in your stoma). Good luck.
