Question:
Has anyone used Dr. MacDonald in Greenville, North Carolina?
I have heard that he does not have any bed side manners and I am so nervous to go see him but yet my doctor said he is one of the best surgeons in this area. My first appointment is in 2 weeks and I am having some anxiety about how he is going to treat me. Please help!!!!!! — DonnaRichards (posted on May 25, 2007)

I have worked in the medical billing field for over 12 years. In my
experience, most doctors that have no bedside manners are the best in their
field. I was always able to overlook their no "personality." I
wouldn't worry about that so much, but at the same time that's up to you.
You have to be comfortable going into such a major decision and having such
a major surgery. If he's ranked high on the state list and high in the
U.S. who cares what his personality is? Good luck!

My doctor was Wade Naziri at Southern Surgical in Greenville. He is a very
nice doctor and caring doctor but also a good doctor. He met me at the
hopital on a Friday night after 6:00 pm because he thought I might have a
tore staple. Once he knew I was ok, he got all over me for eating
something I wasnt suppose to start eating yet. His staff is really nice
and helpful. He also has a support group every first Wednesday of the
month at Phyiscans East for people that is thinking about wls or people
that already had surgery. I went a few times before surgery and it help me
alot to talk with people that has been through it. If you want to know
more, let me know. Good luck and take care.

My doctor who performed my gastric by pass surgery in January 2002, was
Doctor Kenneth MacDonald. He did a great job on my surgery and I know it
was done well. I lost over 200 lbs and I've kept it off. If you have any
other questions please feel free to email me.

As someone who works in the healthcare field.. if I had to choose a nice
doctor, but mediocre surgeon or great surgeon and not so nice personality,
I would pick the latter. You are not hiring him to be your best friend,
you are hiring him to do your surgery. I often wonder when people say that
someone has no bedside manner where that is coming from. Make no mistake,
I have met surgeons with personalities of chainsaws to wet dishcloths, but
often the ones that are labeled as "no bedside manners" are often
the ones who will tell you like it is without any sugarcoating. I would
rather have someone who is brutally honest than someone who will beat
around the bush.. but that choice is absolutely personal.. I would go into
your consultation with a completely open mind and forget all you have heard
and make your own opinion of the man.. good luck to you....
