Question:
Does anyone know of sponsorships/grants for vertical sleeve surgery?

I have BCBS/GA and weight loss surgery is a clear exclusion in my policy. I don't know that I can cover costs of self pay and after care. Would like to know if anyone has heard of or had someone sponsor for the surgery. Thanks.    — sassy0108 (posted on March 9, 2014)

I don't know of any grants for WLS. You could check the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America (www.WLSFA.com) for information on their site. Best of luck!

Yes, there are a few organizations that offer assistance, I can't think of their names at the moment, but I will search and post what I can find that might help you out. An option that my mom found was a bariatric group, can't think of their name either, that actually donates a portion of money from every surgery they perform into a fund. Every time a donation to the fund is made by the medical group, a notification is sent out to their website members, letting them know that a new fund is available. The members then can go on the site and participate in the website game to earn a portion of the posted fund. People can play every time there is a fund posted and save their earnings to either take money off their cost of surgery, or earn a free surgery. Apparently, it is free to setup and play, and my mom seems to really enjoy playing to earn cash for her surgery...I wish I would have known about fund before paying for my surgery lol. Her surgery is set for Dec, so I am interested to see how much she will earn between now and then. Best of luck to you, and I will post what I can find on organizations or sponsors that might help.
