I had to wait for my date to hon. I thought it would be last summer in
June at the latest, then my doc threw me a clinker and said he wanted me to
see an encocrinologist, and I couldn't get in to see that guy for two
months. Then when I finally did, they still stalled around. Finally I got
my date. The simplest thing to do is just call your doctors office and
tell them you want a surgical date, and they should tell you an approximate
time at least. You are paying for their help, and they should give you an
estimate. Don't stay mad about it, just ask. Good luck.

I know exactly how you feel. If you read my blog you will see the run
around I went through too. I was originally told during my first Appt. that
I had to go through the 6 months of nutritional counseling then I would be
qualified so I was looking at surgery in October. Well October got here and
then they said well you have to weigh in one more month! That was pushing
into November, Then I hear well we have to submit to the insuance that can
take 4 to 6 weeks! Long story short I didn't get a date until just before
Thanksgiving and now my surgery is Monday. I totally understand your
frustration, it was like my life was in limbo just waiting to know when. I
feel for you but try and hang in there and you will feel a sigh of releif
when you finally do get one.

Getting the date for surgery is the most frustrating thing. I waited from
Feb til July. This was after everything was approved.
Jsut find a place of peace. This is a good time to learn relaxation
techniques. The hard thing is when I am mad or frustrated I tend to eat and
during this time I needed to lose or maintain my weight. It was soo hard.
But it was a good lesson for after surgery. I learned some new coping
skills.

Your time will come, even if it feels like time is standing still! I
started my journey in May 2008 and had soooo many insurance hoops to go
through even before my doctor could submit on my behalf. I had 6 months of
nutritional counseling, psych exam, several tests and lab work that had to
be completed..... Luckily, I got most of that done during the 6 months of
nurtitional counseling and only after all that was done, would my my doc
submit to insurance. I was told insurance could take up to 3-4 weeks for an
answer but I called the insurance company myself and found out that they
make thier detirmination within one week of submission. By talking with
them, I knew I had been approved before my doc knew! Not all docs are the
same, but my doc does not schedule any WLS without having first received
insurance approval.
Long story short, I started the process in May 2008, my doc submitted info
to the insurance company in October 2008 and I was approved for and had the
WLS in Novermber 2008!
Good luck!

Call and ask if they have one yet...I had to wait a year! My surgeon had a
waiting list that long! He did 4-6 surgeries a day back then at 2-3 hours
a surgery and that is IF all went well! Plus he had to make time for preop
and post op appointments...etc! If your doc is this busy, it could just be
a while before he can schedule in a surgery...There's more behind the
curtain than we can appreciate when we are thinking of ourselves and the
excitement we feel...Our surgeons are busy busy busy! So when you call,
try to remember this so you call! Good luck...You'll get there!

Call your insurance company every day, call your surgeon's office everyday,
be your own best advocate. Don't give up... remember, the squeeky wheel
gets the oil.
Best of luck,

You didn't mention your insurance, not all of them have the 6 month
requirement of counseling like Aetna. I was encouraged by my DR's office
staff to write a sincere letter to my insurance company giving them a brief
history of my struggle with obesity and telling them that I am dedicated to
a life-style change. I wrote to my insurance case manager and I was
approved immediately. Maybe this will work for you as well. Good luck,
