Question:
insurance question????? help
i have an individual plan thru bc\bs and i know they will cover the surgery, but what i dont know is --- i have had the insurance only 2 months, i have a 1 year wait on all pre-existing medical conditions, but all new conditions coverage starts immediatley, so my question is will they consider my obesity, being overweight a pre-existing medical condition, because thats the only pre-existing condition i have,, thanks for the input!!! — cbryant (posted on November 15, 2007)

I don't know what state you live in - I have BC/BS of MA and (like
Lesleigh) they're always patient and great about answering questions and
trying to figure out how to get coverage for something. Give them a call!

I'm in PA and have bcbs and was put on 2 months before I started the
process. They were very nice and the woman I spoke to had just had the
surgery and let me know that according to my doctors guidelines, bcbs would
also cover a tummy tuck and breast reduction when the time comes. Good
luck to you.

I have BC/BS of NJ (HMO) and had to wait the year! Because my obesity was a
preexisting condition...DUH. Greta

When I first looked into this surgery, I had bsbs of michigan and had had
it only three months and hey were willing to cover it with no problem. I
decided to wait as I was newly married, 34, and wanted to have children
right away, so I am 3 weeks pre-op right now with a much harder insurance
to convince, but I think you should be fine with the bcbs.

I have bc/bs of ga and have only had the coverage since july 07 and i am in
the process of trying to get approved i sent in all my information in
august and still haven't heard anything except they are telling me that
they are reviewing my info as pre-exsisting they ask for all my medical
records and i sent those in and now i'm waiting again i have called bc/bs
on several occassions and spoke to them they are always very nice but every
time they say my case is still pending so im waiting but my insurance does
have a 12 month waiting period for pre-exsisting
