Question:
Anyone had severe heartburn after lap-band?
I had lap-band surgery on 8/15 and today I am experiencing horrible heartburn. I talked to the doctor's office - they suggested OTC mylanta or mallox - neither seem to be helping. I am very scared that this may be a band slippage. I would appreciate anyone that can share any experience they had with this after surgery. — tbwilliams (posted on August 17, 2007)

I had horrible heartburn and gas pains. I thought my inside would implode.
I can tell you they do go away and it is not slippage. ( I am fairly
certain)The only thing that helped was to drink flat soda. It sounds gross
but it helped.

I am having horrible heartburn, I am actually 6 months out, but got a very
serious stomach virus, I ended up throwing up for 3 weeks, being
hospitalized for 5 days, and in the end, I had to have my fill taken out.
What has happened, is my stomach was extremely irritated, I noticed that
you are only 2 days out, your stomach is extremely delicate right now. If
you had lapriscopic surgery, you are FULL of gases, and your body is in
major transition. i am almost 6 weeks post having my fill taken out and my
stomach is still swollen and I am still having reflux and heartburn.
Nothing that I cant live with, but my dr told me it would take time to
heal. some people heal more quickly than others, but he did say that he
wouldn't be surprised if i didn't take 8-10 weeks to heal. Just give
everything time. Best of luck....it does work. Drink lots of water and get
lots of exercise to get the gases out. if you have any questions or
concerns let me know, I had surgery 2-2-07 and am officially down as of
today 115 lbs!!!!! life is beautiful!!!!

THE HEARTBURN IS TERRIBLE BUT IT WILL PASS, I WAS PRESCRIBED PREVACID
LIQUID FOR NIGHT AND USED MYLANTA IN THE DAY. THE HOT BROTH ALSO HELPS.
