Question:
Do you know about Pernicious Anemia?
I found out yesterday that I have Pernicious Anemia. This is where my body is not absorbing B-12 like it should. This has been causing dizziness, confusion, forgetfulness, pain and numbness in my legs and arms, tongue problems (food doesn't taste right or bumps on my tongue) and extreme fatigue. With the numbness and tingling in my legs, the doctors wanted to point toward Lupus or MS. Needless to say, I was scared to death. I have spent the last month getting progressivly worse and worried out of my mind. The Neurologist pointed toward the Pernicious Anemia. Why didn't my PCP do a B-12 test with all the other 500 test??? He is a great doctor...don't get me wrong. But we have to be really aware of what test our doctors are putting us through. This isn't really a question...I guess I just wanted to let everyone read this in case someone else is having the same problem. Here is a link to read more about the problem. http://www.pennhealth.com/ency/article/000569.htm I am blessed that this problem can be resolved with B-12 shots, but that doesn't take away from the fear that I have had the last few months. Didn't your surgeon or nutritionist tell you to either take B-12
sublingually on a daily basis or get a B-12 shot once a month? They were
really being negligent if they didn't...JR

I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia in November 2001 and have been doing
my shots every two weeks since my surgery and am doing great. I don't
think there is suppose to be a connection with your shot and weightloss but
within a few days after I take my shot I always drop 2-3 pounds. It's just
a blessing to have my energy back, when I start feeling tired and run down
I know it's getting time to do my shot. My doctor says you really can't
get too much b-12 so since I'm working out alot I do my shot right at the 2
week mark and he is happy with my lab. it started out at 99 and is up to
538 which is just midway on lab.
