Question:
GETTING ENOUGH PROTEIN
I AM 11 DAYS POST OP AND I AM TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO GET THE EXTRA PROTEIN IN THAT MY DOCTOR HAS RECOMMENED (50-60 GRAMS) ANY IDEAS. I CANNOT STAND THE LIQUID PROTEIN IN THE TUBE AND I BOUGHT THE POWDERED WHEY PROTEIN BUT IT MAKES SO MUCH AND TAKES ME 4-EVER TO FINISH..PLEASE HELP!!ARLINGTON — arlington (posted on January 23, 2009)

Cottage cheese and milk work good for me. The first month it is very hard I
drank world pure protien. It can premixed in a can.

Try a few spoonfuls of yogurt or the slimfast shots(premeasured). Milk and
cottage cheese are also good.

I had the same problem at first, with the sheer volume of things. I used
Designer Whey from GNC (I really liked the Orange Mango and the
Pomegranete). I found that I could make these up with only 4 oz of water.
Made it much easier and they tasted good. Be sure you're getting your
fluids, though. Don't want to get dehydrated! Congratulations on moving
into a new way of life. From where you are now, things will get better, I
promise, but make sure however you do it, that you get your protein and
fluids.

Buy flavorless protien powder. Mix it in your soup, yogurt, cottage
cheese, etc. I bought mine in the bulk food section at my supermarket.

I love the EAS chocolate protein powder. It is VERY fine and mixes well
with skim milk. It does make 8 oz at a time, but you could mix it in a
shaker and put half back in the fridge. I even tried it partially frozen
(by mistake) and it was a real treat. Funny what we find to be a treat
isn't it...lol Kimberly

I found the GNC's Pro Performance 100% whey protein in unflavored helped
me. I added (and still do) 1/2 scoop to cottage cheese, soup, jello,
pudding even to other protein drinks. It blends well and doesn't add much
if anything to volume. It adds 10.5 g of protein for a 1/2 scoop. It
changes the texture of the jello but not the taste. When adding to jello
add it to the cold water and add 2 scoops to the package that way you get a
full half scoop per 4 oz serving.

What stage diet are you on ? I am on soft/pureed. I am 19 days post-op. I
start my day with 8 oz. of lactaid milk, which has 9 grams of protein. I am
lactose intolerant. I drink Isopure zero carb in the glass bottle. I has
40gm protein in 20 oz. There are several flavors I drink the icy orange-
one btl per day. GNC has them for 4.69 a btl with the 2nd bottle 1/2 price.
Seems a little expensive, but no more than if I were eating lunch out. then
depending on what I eat , I have 6-10 gm protein at ea. meal. That's a
total of 65-75 grams protein per day. Hope this helps. Hang in there.

I can't stand the powdered protein, and at first I didn't like the New Whey
protein in the vials. WHat I've found though is that, one vial is 42 grams
of protein which is FANTASTIC. Also, since I don't like the taste straight
from the tube, I pour the vial right into 32 oz of water and drink that
with ICE throughout the day. You can barely taste the protein stuff, and
you're getting your water in. Hope that helps a little.

You cannot expect to get in 60 g's of protein right away...Do your best,
but work your way there! You will get there before you cause yourself any
harm! So relax and make a half serving of your powdered protein...One full
drink is usually about 30 g's protein (that's half way)...and if you do
just do one slpit in half, you can eat a little in three meals, you'll be
closer than you think! So rather than than say 2 scoops in a cup of
liquid...try one scoop in a half a cup...Use milk (skim or whatever you
like for extra protein) or soy milk...You're going to do fine...But relax
and try your best to eat what you can without forcing yourself...Just be
sure to take your vits and supps as well for added nutrition...Good luck to

less sugar than regular yogurt and tastes absolutely delicious with SF
preserves mixed in...Later you can graduate to fresh fruit pureed into

AnyWhey from GNC is virtually tasteless and can be mixed with food, cottage
cheese, soups, grits, cream of wheat. sprinkled over cereal, I love it in
my cup of hope cococa every morning and evening. It gives me what I need.
Just be careful not to put it in foods that are too hot, It WILL curdle and
be nasty. Just a bit hotter that you mught drink down quickly. Nice
sipping warm/hot.

Try unjury.com They make an unflavored that i blend 1 scoop with 2 0z of
skim milk, 4 oz. of orange juice, 1 t. vanilla, 1 pkg of splenda, ice or
orange sherbet. It is like an orange julius! You can't even taste the

I really like the Unjury Chocolate Protein Powder mixed with 8 oz of milk -
28g of protein. If you can stand it; you can add ice to that to keep the
powder mixed up well and keep your milk cold. Also, I am like you; I can't
stand the liquid protein in the tube but I actually mix mine with flavored
Crystal Lite and ice. It may take me longer to get it down but it is worth
it to me so that I can tolerate the taste and the texture. And, it will
take you a long time to get your liquids and protein down at first but
don't get discouraged - it will get better! Hang in there and good luck to
