Question:
Post Op Pregnancy
I am 9 months post-op, and found out I am 14 weeks pregant, It wasn't planned, I was on the pill, but now I wonder how this will affect my weight, and if the baby will be healthy, anyone have any info. for me? Also, did you have to see a specialist for the pregancy? Thanks in advance! — smf0926 (posted on June 15, 2008)

What surgery did you have? I know with Lapband they suggest not getting
pregnant for the first 18 months so you can lose as much weight as
possible. I went for my annual with my Gyn and he told me that I would see
him if I decided to have more children after surgery. He would work with my
nutritionist and Bariatric surgeon to be sure I had a healthy baby.

Many Post Ops get pregnant on the pill...It's been said that you malabsorb
the pill with RNY...Never looked further into it...but I know several
people swear that it is true. Someone suggested the pregnancy board...Good
place to get better
answers....http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/postop_pregnancy/

Hi I am three years post op and I got pregnant at 16 months post op. I
wanted to get pregnant and when I got pregnant I was already at my goal
weight and not losing weight for over a month. My doctor told me that as
long as you are at a weight you want to be and are no longer losing weight
that you should be ok. One of my reasons I had the surgery was to get
pregnant at my goal weight. I gained 44 pounds while I was pregnant. As
soon as I came home from having my baby I was only twenty pounds heavier
then my goal weight. I've only lost a couple pounds since I had her because
I have to watch my calorie intake because I'm breastfeeding. I didn't
have to see a specialist my obgyn just saw me more often and worked with my
doctor as to what I should be doing. You have to take more vitamins and
get more non stress tests and ultrasounds then normal. But it's good
because you get to watch your baby grow more. My baby was healthy. Don't
worry just eat right, take care of yourself, take your vitamins, and drink
plenty of water. You and your baby should be fine. If you have any other
questions let me know. Goodluck, Jeannie

I HAD THE GASTRIC BYPASS AND HAD A BABY ONE YEAR LATER HE WAS PERFICT AND
MY PREGNANCY WAS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THEN WHEN I WAS OVER WEIGHT. PILLS
DO NOT ABSORB AT ALL IF YOU HAD BYPASS. ALSO HE HAS NO WEIGHT ISSUES LIKE
MY FIRST TWO BOYS AND I NEEDED FERTILITY DRUG TO CONCIEVE THEM. I ALSO CAME
HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL WEIGHING 15 POUNDS LESS THEN WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS
PREGNANT. I ONLY GAINED 30 POUNDS MY WHOLE PREGNANCY ALL BABY. GOOD LUCK
AND BEST WISHES ANNA P.S. YOU CAN TEXT ME IF YOU WANT TO TALK OR HAVE MORE
QUESTIONS.

I was 7months out when I found I was 8 weeke pregnant. My baby is well and
he is 3 years old. I did not gain alot of weight during my pregnancy and
ate as much good stuff as I could. It is good to see your ob early and talk
to a dietician so you get the right amount of nutrietion you need. I also
saw my weight loss surgeon. They were all happy for me. I was fourty when I
was pregnant so I was high risk for my age only. Gastric bypass pts are not
normally considered high risk. I also had monthly ultrasounds to check the
babies growth. Good luck!!!!!
